College Basketball Recruiting: Latest News on Anthony Bennett and Top Recruits

Randy ChambersJun 3, 2018

The top two recruits in Shabazz Muhammad and Nerlens Noel have recently made their decisions on where they'll play basketball next season, but that doesn't mean the recruiting world comes to an end for the 2012 class. In fact, there are still several talented players out there that are still trying to make the most important decision of their life.

These players may not receive as much attention as a Muhammad, but they could easily help a program right away and be another piece to a national championship puzzle.

With the Jordan Brand Classic in the books, these players will begin focusing on the the schools they're considering and try to inch closer on which one they'll pick.

Here's the latest news for the top remaining recruits for the 2012 class.

Tony Parker

1 of 5

No, this isn't the San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker; it's a 6'8", 255-pound center, who will instantly help any team down in the paint. Question is, where will he end up? There were rumors he was going to make his announcement the same day Muhammad and Noel made theirs, but obviously that didn't happen.

There's a good possibility he will make his decision sometime this week, but of course we just never know.

“I might,” Parker said about making his decision this week via Scout.com. “I’m thinking about it.”

Parker is considering schools such as Ohio State, Duke, Georgia, Memphis, Kansas and UCLA. And speaking of the Bruins, they have a recruiter in Muhammad who is trying to convince the big man to head to the West Coast.

"Tony is such a clown on the court," Muhammad said via the Sporting News. "I can't wait until he decides to come to UCLA hopefully. He's such a good player, and if we get him, that's the icing on the cake."

This could get interesting.

Devonta Pollard

2 of 5

It's very hard to pick up any clues from Pollard because he keeps everything very close to the vest, which keeps us guessing. We do know that the four likely schools that have a shot at the 6'7" shooting forward are Georgetown, Texas, Alabama and Missouri. He also has an offer on the table from Mississippi State and being from Mississippi, it's hard to count the Bulldogs out either.

Now which school is the front-runner is truly anyone's guess.

Pollard has recently wrapped up his visit with the Crimson Tide and is expected to visit with the Hoyas sometime this week. Don't be surprised if a decision is made within a week and a half by the 5-Star recruit.

Anthony Bennett

3 of 5

Anthony Bennett is now the top remaining uncommitted recruit and you shouldn't expect a decision from him anytime soon. He still has several visits to make and doesn't seem to be in any hurry to rush the decision process. At this point, the Florida Gators and Kentucky Wildcats would be the likely front-runners, but considering he's from Nevada, it would be foolish to count out UNLV as well.

We'll continue to watch Bennett closely, but don't expect anything drastic from the power forward within the next couple of weeks.

Amile Jefferson

4 of 5

I'm not sure there is any recruit in the country that has been a tougher read than Amile Jefferson. It seems like every school in the country is still in the running for the 6'9" power forward. That includes schools such as North Carolina State, Duke, Villanova, Kentucky and Ohio State. Although many consider the Wolf Pack and the Blue Devils the heavy favorites for his services.

Recent North Carolina State recruit Tyler Lewis interviewed Jefferson via Scout.com and tried to get a commitment from the power forward, but he simply wouldn't drop any hints.

If I was a betting man, I'd say Jefferson ends up in Duke, but my guess is as good as yours at this point. Expect a decision within a week or so on where the strong and lengthy Jefferson ends up.

Robert Upshaw

5 of 5

Robert Upshaw is one of the top centers in this year's class and he had a home at Kansas State until head coach Frank Martin left for South Carolina. Upshaw has since been playing in an international tournament, but word is that he will make his decision at some point on April 15.

"Only Robert knows," says Upshaw's mother via fresnobee.com ."I don't even know, and my stomach is upset. I'm nervous."

Upshaw was really looking at schools such as Louisville and Fresno State before picking Kansas State. He also has an offer from Georgetown on the table as well.

While nobody knows for sure where he'll end up, we do know that another top recruit will have fallen off the board real soon.
