Tiger Woods' 10 Worst Masters Moments in 2012
In case you missed it, Tiger Woods bombed out in spectacular fashion at the 2012 Masters Tournament.
Like, seriously bombed out.
His five-over par was officially the worst Masters tournament of his professional career, with rounds of 72, 75, 72 and 74 placing the man who was once the greatest golfer in the world back in a tie for 40th place.
Just where did Tiger go wrong at the 2012 Masters?
Well, lots of places, but here are the top ten.
No. 10: Round 2, Hole 4
1 of 10Sometimes it's not the big things in life that completely rattle us; other times it's just the little things that set us off on a course from which we never fully recover.
At 2-under heading to the fourth hole of the second round, Tiger looked good.
That was until he bogeyed the Par-3 hole—starting a run that saw him fail to make a single birdie the rest of the day and finish at three-over par.
No. 9: Round 1, Hole 17
2 of 10At the end of the 16th in the opening round, Woods would have just wanted to finish strong with the final two holes and build upon his current two-under score.
Yet on holes that historically Tiger has excelled at, he bogeyed the 17th and the 18th to undo all of his hard work during the day and put him in the clubhouse at an even-par.
Looking back, this was clearly a demoralizing moment for Tiger, as one can only imagine how he would have fared if he entered the remaining rounds further up the leaderboard.
No. 8: Par-Five Holes
3 of 10Heading into the Masters, Tiger stressed the importance of playing strongly on the par-five holes—something that historically, he has done very, very well.
However, looking back, Woods will know that he missed several opportunities to score on these holes at the 2012 Masters, as he finished just one-under across these holes.
A bogey on the 5th in the final round encapsulated perfectly Tiger's frustration at his inability to convert on the par-fives throughout the tournament.
No. 7: Round Two, Hole 13
4 of 10Tiger...
Another par-five; another wasted opportunity.
No. 6: Back Nine, Round Three
5 of 10After the end of the second round, Woods had a long hitting session that went well into the night—hoping to improve his game for the following day.
And after two early birdies, it might have looked like it was working, but that was immediately followed by two bogeys that saw him back at even-par as he entered the back nine.
Desperate to make some sort of impact, Tiger... made par. And he made par.
Nothing to write about; nothing inspirational.
He lacked the ability to spark himself back into championship form; watching Woods only making par just seemed, well, boring.
The reason why it's noted as one of the worst moments of the tournament for Tiger is because he was normal, run-of-the-mill, nothing-spectacular and nothing-exciting.
He was just another also-ran.
No. 5: Round Four, Hole 16
6 of 10It's the final round and there are three holes to play. You just want to get them over and done with and get into the clubhouse as soon as possible.
You definitely don't want to make a scene; you just want to finish.
Two bogeys in consecutive holes probably wasn't what Woods had in mind to finish the tournament with, but at least it did sum up his week pretty well.
No. 4: Round Two, Hole 13
7 of 10Tiger's two-over par at this point and desperately trying to find the groove so he can fight his way back into contention for the Masters green jacket.
Instead, "it's not even close..."
No. 3: Phil Mickelson Finishing Third
8 of 10Because they were the top-two players for such a long time in world golf, people often measure Tiger Woods to Phil Mickelson to compare how the two are faring professionally.
Well for Floppy Phil to finish eight-under par in a tie for third which included a triple-bogey in the final round, it's not great news for Tiger.
Not only is the man they call Lefty beating him, he's doing it comfortably, and everybody in the world is noticing it.
No. 2: Round Two, Hole 16
9 of 10The now infamous moment where Tiger lost his cool completely came on the 16th hole in the second round where Woods would record a bogey and move to three-over par for the tournament.
The once always composed Woods who would seemingly never let anything phase him was stripped back and the real Tiger was there for all to see.
He was frustrated. He was angry. He had a sore foot and he couldn't do anything to stop it.
Which made this moment one of his worst for the tournament.
Not his worst though?
No. That honor is reserved for someone special...
No. 1: Bubba Watson Putting on His Green Jacket
10 of 10Tiger Woods' worst moment from the 2012 Masters would have been when he watched Bubba Watson put on that green jacket and smile his little heart away.
Not because it was Bubba, but because that was his green jacket he was supposed to win.
He was the favorite for the tournament; he was the one who was supposed to ride back into form and, Cinderella-esque, walk away with another green jacket to his name.
Instead, he was forced to watch as someone else claimed the title he wanted to win.
Again.
And that moment would have hurt more than any for Tiger, whose fighting spirit and desire to win is still just as strong as it was when he first broke onto the PGA Tour.
Hitting the ball in to the rough hurts; doing it time and time again hurts also.
But watching someone else put on the green jacket?
That hurts more than anything.
