Dallas Cowboys Mock Draft: The Latest Full 7-Round Predictions
We are just 17 days away from the National Football League draft and the Dallas Cowboys are on the clock. Dallas is in a great position to pick a player that will help in anchoring their secondary or offensive line.
My last mock I had the Cowboys selecting Alabama safety Mark Barron in the first round. I think the talent pool is deeper at guard than at safety past the first round and the Cowboys should hang on to Barron instead of going after Stanford's David DeCastro.
However, I don't believe that Dallas can go wrong with either pick. DeCastro is a people mover in the middle and will bring stability to an inconsistent guard position up front.
So, with just over two weeks to go before the Cowboys make their selection, let's mock.
First Round: Mark Barron, SS, Alabama
1 of 8Drafttek.com has Dallas choosing South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore, but I believe picking Gilmore at 14 would be far too high. He is a good player with some potential, but not great enough for a pick at 14.
Dallas needs a safety and while it may take Barron awhile to learn the position and become acclimated to the Cowboys defense, it's better than taking a player the team may not really want.
Second Round: Kevin Zeitler, G, Wisconsin
2 of 8Dallas needs a guard and according to Scout’s INC, Zeitler is one of the top guards in the draft. If the Cowboys do not draft DeCastro in the first round, Zeitler would be a fantastic pick here.
He’s comparable to DeCastro in size, but lacks his mobility in the pass protection. He’ll develop into a starter, I believe, and the Cowboys would address two positions of need in the first two rounds. A grand start in my eyes.
Third Round: Ronnell Lewis, DE/LB, Oklahoma
3 of 8I'm sticking with Lewis here as I like his versatility and size. He tackles really well and can deliver knockout blows. The Cowboys are looking for a pass-rusher and Lewis fits the bill here.
Jones has the theory of selecting the best players available and Lewis would be one of the best. He's not an inside guy, but would put pressure on the quarterback and provide cover for the secondary.
Fourth Round: LaDarius Green, TE, Louisiana-Lafayette
4 of 8I keep going back to Green because of his athleticism. He'll need some time to develop and grow, but this guy can split out wide or play down on the line. He has great range around the ball and can use his height, 6'5", to out-jump most defenders.
His blocking will need to improve and so will his route running. The Cowboys need another pass catching tight end and Green would fit well.
Fourth Round (Compensatory Pick): Nick Jean-Baptiste, NT, Baylor
5 of 8Jean-Baptiste is 335 pounds; almost a full 50 pounds heavier than current nose tackle Jay Ratliff. Ratliff isn't moving to defensive end anytime soon, but Dallas needs a guy who can plug the middle.
Jean-Baptiste wouldn't be a starter and only play in situational circumstances. He would add depth to the position and give the Cowboys an added weapon on the defensive line.
Fifth Round: DeQuan Menzie, CB, Alabama
6 of 8Menzie is another Alabama product, which may be a mistake. National title teams can mask some players' inefficiencies because of the success the team has achieved.
At any rate, Menzie isn't a guy who will come in an immediately make an impact. He would play nickel, fill-in roles and special teams. But despite those possible inadequacies, he did play for a Nick Saban defense and should have enough discipline to bring value to the Cowboys.
Sixth Round: Chris Galippo, ILB, USC
7 of 8Galippo plays the pass well and does a great job of reading the quarterback. He's not a good pass-rusher and can sometimes slide off of tackles. But he's going to be one of the smartest players on the field and can be a defensive coach.
His skills will not match is IQ on the field, so the Cowboys will have to tread lightly.
Seventh Round: Levy Adcock, T, Oklahoma State
8 of 8He was here in my last mock and will be a place holder here for now. He's an inconsistent player but will bring a nasty streak and enormous size to overpower some defenders.
He'll get beat at times and bring stability at others. He is the type of player to possibly drive fans crazy and give them peace of mind at the same time. Not a starter but good enough for depth reasons.
