Wrestlemania 28 Results: Power Ranking the Biggest Flops at WWE's Premier Event

Mike ChiariJun 7, 2018

Sunday's WrestleMania XXVIII was one of the best in recent memory and lived up to the hype because of a fantastic slate of main-event matches. With that said, though, there were some throwaway segments and matches that could easily have been improved on.

There wasn't a lot that I hated about WrestleMania, but there is no question that there were some regrettable moments, as there is on almost every wrestling card. As good as 'Mania was this year, the WWE still has yet to put on a perfect event.

That being said, if they avoid some of the mistakes they made this year, it could still happen.

Here are the three biggest flops from WrestleMania XXVIII.

3. Leaving Tag Team Championships Off Main Card

In the pre-WrestleMania dark match, tag team champions Primo and Epico defended their titles against The Usos as well as the team of Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel in a triple-threat tag match.

The bout, which was shown on WWE.com and YouTube, was short, but it was highly entertaining. The champs retained in a spirited match that could have easily been included on the main card.

The tag team championships used to be extremely important, but they have been treated like dirt over the past few years.

The creative team may think that nobody cares about the tag-team division, but the only reason for that is because it isn't built up or showcased. There is no question that the WWE is short on quality tag teams, but everyone in the dark match is a solid worker who fans could eventually get behind.

I'm not saying that the tag team championship match should have been a huge match on the card, but there were enough useless segments that it could have been included.

2. Brodus Clay's Dancing

Let me preface this by saying that I may be the biggest fan of the Funkasaurus gimmick out there, but not even I can defend Brodus Clay's dance number at WrestleMania.

If he had perhaps done his normal dance in a quick segment, it would have been fine. However, the fact that he brought out his "momma" and her "bridge club" was far too over the top and made the whole thing a complete joke.

I'm completely behind Clay and am happy that he made an appearance on the biggest show of the year, but there were better ways to get him involved. The most obvious would have been to put him on Team Teddy in the 12-man tag match. That being said, creative might have been reluctant to put him on the losing team.

At the very least, Clay should have been put in a mini-feud in the few weeks leading up to 'Mania. This way, he could have gone over in a quick match that would have been far more sensible than a dance number.

1. MGK and Flo-Rida Concerts

Yikes! This was awful. I understand that music was a big part of making wrestling mainstream in the 1980s with the Rock 'N Wrestling Connection, but that is a thing of the past.

Essentially, every wrestling fan hated Kid Rock's concert at WrestleMania XXV, so I'm not exactly sure why Vince McMahon thought people would embrace MGK and Flo-Rida.

Apparently, they were supposed to get fans pumped for the John Cena vs. The Rock main event, but that wasn't the case.

The reaction in Miami for the performers was lukewarm—to put it mildly—as people seemed like they just wanted to get to the match. I guess you could say that it built anticipation, but that easily could have been done with a video package.

The performances wasted a good 10 or 15 minutes that could have easily been used to add another match. The overall substance of the event was great, but McMahon needs to realize that people hate musical performances at WrestleMania.
