Dwight Howard Denies Stan Van Gundy's Claim He Wants Coach Fired

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Dwight Howard is an NBA superstar with unlimited potential, but he's acting like a selfish child right now.

The Orlando Magic center has reportedly told the organization he wants coach Stan Van Gundy fired. The coach confirmed the story at a press conference this morning, moments before Howard came out.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reports that the center immediately denied the allegations:

Dwight Howard, moments after putting his arm around Stan, denies he wants him fired. Wow, crazy times in Orlando

Crazy times indeed.

The Magic have lost four straight games and it is quickly getting ugly after they persevered all season long through the endless Howard trade rumors.

The nonsense he's put this team through this season is much worse than what Carmelo Anthony did a year ago to the Denver Nuggets. Melo, at the very least, made it known that he wanted out and gave the Nuggets a team to deal with in New York.

Ironically enough, the Magic host the very same Knicks tonight.

Howard has said one thing, done another and even admitted to getting some bad advice this season.

It has simply been a free-for-all in Orlando and Howard is the obnoxiously tall and indecisive ring leader of it all.

Meanwhile, Van Gundy maintains that he "knows" Howard wants him fired—Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski tweets—and there is only one eventual ending in sight.

"

Source close to Stan Van Gundy tells Y!: "Dwight (Howard) has asked multiple times, since last summer, for Stan to be fired...."

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) April 5, 2012"

Howard just agreed to stay in Orlando for at least one more year; the minute the Magic are out of the playoffs—barring a miraculous and completely unexpected NBA Finals victory—he will be fired.

Whether Dwight Howard wants his coach fired or not is soon to be irrelevant. The Magic are clearly struggling in a number of areas and the relationship between SVG and Howard has been rocky for some time.

This situation should really come as no surprise and it wouldn't be shocking to see something else come about before the season is over.

When Dwight Howard is involved, you never know what you're going to get.
