WWE WrestleMania 28 Results: 10 Matches We Need to Get at WWE Extreme Rules

Drake OzJun 3, 2018

The WWE's biggest pay-per-view of the year is now a thing of the past, and instead of being on the road to WrestleMania, it's time to head to Extreme Rules.

The next WWE PPV takes place in less than four weeks in the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, and traditionally, it's been a pretty good show.

Though Extreme Rules often features WrestleMania rematches, those are usually high-quality gimmick matches, and we also typically get another few nice additions to the card.

So, what matches should we get at the first pay-per-view after WrestleMania 28?

Here are 10 matches I want to see at Extreme Rules 2012.

And cut me a break, guys, it's not easy to come up with 10 matches right after 'Mania, and I know that the WWE won't have that many at the pay-per-view.

10. Lord Tensai vs. Yoshi Tatsu

1 of 10

Lord Tensai made his highly anticipated return/debut on Monday's Raw, and he did so in the same fashion that most other unstoppable monsters do: by squashing a lower-card worker.

He beat the holy hell out of Alex Riley, and though it was longer than your typical squash, it was certainly still a squash.

After the match, WWE star Yoshi Tatsu laid down the challenge to Lord Tensai on Twitter, but given that Tatsu is a lower-card worker as well, this would undoubtedly be another squash if they ever faced off.

I hated that the WWE debuted Tensai by having him squash a jobber, but if they're going to continue to have him do that, they might as well capitalize on Tatsu's tweet and have Tensai squash him at Extreme Rules to help get him over.

That's definitely better than seeing a bunch of Brodus Clay's mommas dance for a few minutes.

9. Extreme Rules Match: Kane vs. Randy Orton

2 of 10

I don't particularly care for this feud between Kane and Randy Orton, but I feel like it's almost a given that it's going to extend through Extreme Rules.

Kane beat Orton at WrestleMania, and Orton will get a rematch on this Friday's Smackdown. If Orton wins that match, it's only fitting for this rivalry to extend to a best-of-three series that culminates at Extreme Rules.

How do match series like that typically end? With a gimmick match.

The WWE might as well make this an Extreme Rules match because it's going to have to be some kind of gimmick match anyway, and adding a stipulation will make this bout much more entertaining than if it were a traditional wrestling match.

8. Layla vs. Eve Torres

3 of 10

It's rumored that Zack Ryder's current beef with Eve Torres will result in Ryder being paired with a returning Layla for a feud with Eve and another WWE superstar.

That's fine by me because the Divas division could really benefit from having Layla back, and this Ryder/Eve drama has played out so long that it needs to have some kind of payoff eventually.

Eve is really hated by the fans at the moment, so it would do a lot of good for Layla to return against arguably the top heel Diva in the WWE.

Perhaps you could have Eve come out at Extreme Rules and cut one of her dreadful promos before Layla interrupts it, challenges Eve to a match, beats her and then aligns herself with Ryder.

7. Mark Henry vs. John Cena

4 of 10

Mark Henry deserves some sort of feud and a match at Extreme Rules.

Why? Because he's had two really good matches on Monday Night Raw recently against John Cena and CM Punk, respectively.

Now that Cena has moved on from The Rock and is sliding into a feud with Brock Lesnar, though, I think Cena is going to need something else to do before he finally faces Lesnar in a singles match, which I'm guessing will happen at SummerSlam.

That's why I say have Cena take on Henry at Extreme Rules.

It looks like the WWE is at least trying to build Henry back up, and since Cena has had a rough go-around as of late (with the loss to The Rock and the F5 from Lesnar), the creative team can continue to play up that storyline by having Henry beat Cena at the pay-per-view, too.

6. Steel Cage Match for Intercontinental Championship: Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes

5 of 10

The Big Show beat Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 28, but it was pretty clear on Monday's Raw that this feud isn't over.

My guess is that, like most WrestleMania feuds, the Show/Rhodes rivalry will end at Extreme Rules when Rhodes gets his rematch for the Intercontinental title.

And it should be inside a steel cage.

Rhodes has made a habit out of fleeing from Show, and whenever a cowardly heel consistently attempts to run away from a baby face, an easy way to prevent that from happening is by putting the heel inside a steel cage and ensuring that he has nowhere to go.

As with most gimmick matches, this could be the be-all, end-all of the Show/Rhodes rivalry before those two go their separate ways.

5. Tag Titles Ladder Match: Epico/Primo vs. Clay/Santino vs. Ziggler/Swagger

6 of 10

The WWE has apparently started up a storyline on Twitter with WWE Tag Team Champion Epico complaining about being left off the main card at WrestleMania 28.

My hope is that this leads to some increased TV time for Epico and Primo and that they get themselves a defense of their tag team titles at Extreme Rules. Their opponents? Two teams: Brodus Clay and Santino Marella, as well as Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger.

Santino and Clay seemed to form a duo of sorts on Monday's Raw, and it appears as if their first feud is going to be against the pair of Ziggler and Swagger. But I think that the WWE should throw the tag team champs into the mix as well.

Epico and Primo deserve more TV time, and if Clay/Santino and Ziggler/Swagger are going to be paired together, they might as well be going after a set of titles, right?

I think that Epico and Primo are really underrated in the ring, and Ziggler's obviously a phenomenal bumper, so throw these guys into a Triangle Ladder match and the results could be surprisingly great.

4. Lumberjack Match: The Miz vs. Zack Ryder

7 of 10

The Miz has made Zack Ryder's life miserable over the last few days.

It was The Miz who pinned Ryder at WrestleMania 28 to get the win for Team Johnny, and it was The Miz who beat Ryder again the following night on Raw.

The WWE seems to be building up some type of extended feud between these two, and I think there's a chance that it will culminate at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view when Ryder looks to get his revenge on The Miz in a singles match.

I have this as a Lumberjack match because just about every bout at Extreme Rules is going to be a gimmick match, and the lumberjack stipulation might actually fit here.

Since The Miz was on Team Johnny and Ryder was on Team Teddy at WrestleMania, you could have John Laurinaitis make this a lumberjack match with all the Team Teddy and Team Johnny participants as those lumberjacks to "make sure there's no outside interference," which would naturally lead to plenty of outside interference throughout the course of the match.

3. Submission Match for the Divas Championship: Beth Phoenix vs. Natalya

8 of 10

We didn't get Beth Phoenix vs. Natalya at WrestleMania 28 like we wanted, so now it's time for the WWE to make amends.

Although there has been virtually no build toward this feud/match over the last few months, this is a match that plenty of fans would love to see.

Quite simply, it's a battle of the two best female wrestlers in the WWE, both of whom use submission maneuvers as part of their arsenals.

Beth and Natalya deserve to have a match against one another, and it deserves a stipulation that will make it more interesting than a typical Divas match would.

If not the first-ever Divas ladder match, then I'd be all in for a Submission match, with Beth trying to lock in the cloverleaf and Natalya trying to finish Beth off with the Sharpshooter.

2. I Quit Match for WWE Championship: CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho

9 of 10

The feud between Chris Jericho and CM Punk got extremely personal before WrestleMania 28, but many thought that Punk had triumphed over Jericho with his victory at the pay-per-view.

Wrong. On Monday's Raw, Punk suffered a brutal attack at the hands of Jericho, who poured alcohol over Punk and then smashed a bottle over his head.

The animosity between these two will undoubtedly be at an all-time high over the next few weeks, and a feud this personal deserves a match stipulation that we rarely see anymore: an "I Quit" match.

Jericho has made a habit out of humiliating Punk over the last several weeks, and the best way for Punk to return the favor is to make Jericho say "I quit."

We already saw an outstanding technical match from these two at WrestleMania 28, so it's now time to see a brawl for the ages.

1. Falls Count Anywhere Match for World Title: Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus

10 of 10

We got robbed at WrestleMania 28 when Sheamus defeated Daniel Bryan in only 18 seconds to become the new World Heavyweight Champion, but the WWE gets a redo with the likely rematch at Extreme Rules.

Bryan and Sheamus deserve a good 15-20 minutes for their title match here, and, of course, it's likely to have some kind of gimmick attached to it.

This feud, however, hasn't really been that personal or that hot, so the WWE can go a number of ways with what gimmick this match has. I say make it a Falls Count Anywhere (or perhaps a Last Man Standing) match that will make Bryan be even more wary of the possibility of a Brogue Kick ending the match even when he's outside of the ring.

What should make this match even more interesting is the potential role that Alberto Del Rio might play in it. ADR seemed to kick off a mini-feud of sorts with Sheamus on Monday's Raw, and it looks like these two could be going at it in the near future.

Will Del Rio cost Sheamus the victory? Or could this match even be made a Triple Threat?

I don't know, but I do know that I'd love to see the WWE make up for that 18-second squash by giving us a hell of a match at Extreme Rules.

Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
