WrestleMania 28: More Could Have Been Made About the Undertaker's Bald Reveal

Daniel MasseyJun 4, 2018

The Undertaker improved to 20-0 at WrestleMania last night.

Jim Ross was on commentary, and the Sun Life Stadium was buzzing with anticipation due to the impending carnage that was about to ensue.

The Game made his entrance, looking larger than life, and The Undertaker followed, with the signature hood he has been wearing since his return.

Those in the know knew that The Undertaker no longer had his long black hair when he returned. This was made glaringly obvious by the wig he was given to wear.

As vignettes aired that promoted the match and goaded Triple H, clips of The Undertaker cutting his hair were shown to the world. However, last night, the new look of The Undertaker was revealed.

Was it what we were expecting? Was it a good reveal? Or could more have been made from it?

Now don’t get me wrong: I am taking nothing away from the fantastic display that Triple H and The Undertaker put on in Hell in a Cell. It was a fantastic match, but I feel the beginning of the match could have made more of an impact from this shocking new look for the Deadman.

The Undertaker’s hairdo was certainly not what I was expecting. I was expecting to see a fully bald Undertaker reveal himself to the world last night.

When he first took his hood off, a wave of disappointment came over me as I thought his hair looked a bit weird.

Then I noticed the Mohawk thing at the back, and another wave of disappointment came over me. However, when I took a moment to analyse the situation and remove personal feeling from it, I found myself seeing why his hair was this way.

It makes sense for it to look weird because he has cut it himself in order to be reborn. It was a part of his mental healing process after being carted off the WrestleMania stage last year on a stretcher.

It is fair to liken the situation to when Kane first revealed he’d been wearing a wig. The half-shaved head looked menacing and disturbing because it did not conform to the socially acceptable styles of hair we see every day.

The same goes for The Undertaker last night in a way. Even though it was in a style, it was still shocking to see because it goes against the norm of him having long black hair down to his collar.

I also thought the reveal could have been a little better.

One of my favourite moments in WWF/E history is when Mankind morphed into Cactus Jack. Even though all Mick Foley did was take off his shirt and tie to reveal a T-shirt underneath, the reason that moment sends shivers down wrestling fans’ spines is down to one thing—Triple H’s face.

His facial expression during this reveal was immense and it truly did make the moment. I believe the same could have happened last night, but Triple H didn’t even bat an eyelid.

Just a little facial expression could have made The Undertaker look more dangerous than last year, and not like someone who cut off their hair because they were going a bit mental.

One facial expression could have added so much more to the start of this match. The Undertaker could have started off strong and Triple H could have taken a while to get his bearings, leading to exactly what we saw. An extra two minutes were all we needed.

I do believe more could have been made from this and though some may believe an article on The Undertaker’s hair is a bit pointless, given the fantastic event we just witnessed, I just thought I’d give a little insight into how something so small can make a huge impact.
