WWE WrestleMania 28 Results: Undertaker, Triple H and One Beautiful Moment

Nathan GieseApr 1, 2012

I cried tonight.

No, it had nothing to do with a personal problem or even stepping on a Lego.  The reason why I cried tonight was because of one beautiful, defining moment that will forever be etched into my memory.

In what was a grueling and intense match, Undertaker overcame what he went through last year and finished off Triple H to extend his streak to 20-0 at WrestleMania all time.

At the conclusion of the match, Shawn Michaels, the special guest referee of the match, helped the victorious Deadman to his feet in order to raise his hand. Immediately after, Michaels went back over to his best friend, Triple H, whose body still lay on the mat, beaten and battered, unable to make it to his feet.

Upon seeing that his adversary was still down on the ground, Undertaker and Michaels, together, helped Hunter to his feet and became his legs, walking him slowly up the ramp.  As they reached the top of the ramp, the three legends turned around and gazed at the crowd before them, listening and watching as the 78,000-plus fans stood on their feet to celebrate the great match they had just witnessed.

Watching those three, whose accomplishments combined will never be achieved again in the history of professional wrestling, stand together symbolized what, indeed, would mark the end of an era.

After a few moments of taking it all in, Undertaker, Triple H and Shawn Michaels formed a group hug, showing their respect and admiration for one another one last time.

That's when I lost it. That moment, the hug, was the moment in time that caused this young, aspiring journalist and avid wrestling fan to break down in tears of joy.

Some of you may call me a wuss for shedding tears over people I have never met, and that would not bother me.

The reason why I shed tears was the meaning behind the entire moment. As the final bell sound, everything slowed down. Time stood still as I thought about not only how incredible the match was, but how much those three competitors have done for wrestling fans all over the world.

Three icons from one era stood before me, and the rest of the WWE Universe, and showed that no matter the drive to win or the ambition to destroy each other for the goal of winning, respect is the ultimate name of the game.

You can't work with somebody you don't respect because the product would crumble. What we had in Triple H, Undertaker and Shawn Michaels are three men whom, while maybe having some of the biggest egos in company history, have the utmost respect for each other.

When you see high profile athletes or performers showing respect towards one another, it's something we should all appreciate, because in reality, it doesn't happen as often as you may think. There's always going to be animosity among stars, so seeing mutual respect is a sight to be seen in itself.

I cried because in that moment, I realized that we may have, in fact, seen the very end of one of the greatest eras in wrestling history.

Saying that they represented the Attitude Era doesn't even do these three justice, as they represent so much more than a label. They represent the dying breed of multi-talented, hard working, bust your ass until you get to the top Superstars.

Say what you want about Triple H "marrying into the company so he can run it," or Undertaker's reported backstage abuse to younger talent—those have no merit at this point. Regardless of the negatives we hear of these two, those "acts" get easily buried under the greatness they brought with them to each and every contest.

I cried because seeing that moment made me realize, as we all should in the very near future, just how lucky we are to have lived during the time where being a wrestling fan was cool. A time where saying your Monday nights were reserved for Raw was socially acceptable and a time where the best stars were displayed for the world to see.

I cried because that hug between three great legends may possibly never be seen in action again. My tears were shed because of happiness for three great men and because of knowing an era did, quite possibly, end on Sunday night in Miami.

We should all take some time to sit back and really think about how great having Undertaker, Triple H and Shawn Michaels were to watch, because it's very possible we could never see it again. If I'm wrong, so be it. If I'm right, I don't think anybody should complain about how it all ended for three greats.
