WrestleMania 28: CM Punk Will Propel Career by Beating Chris Jericho

Alex HallMay 31, 2018

Chris Jericho is one of the most talented and decorated wrestlers of the past decade, and, to me, is the best in the world, but CM Punk is the one who will prevail tonight.

The WWE Universe isn't sure how long Jericho will be returning to WWE action, with there being a possibility his return will end after WrestleMania.

This 'Mania is headlined by The Rock versus John Cena, which will be a passing of the torch from the face of the attitude era to the face of the current era; the same will happen during the Punk/Jericho bout.

Jericho has his place in history. He's easily going to be part of the Hall of Fame someday, and his loss to Punk won't hurt his legacy in the least. What it will do, however, is bring Punk to another level in the echelon of current WWE talent.

He's already a main event talent, but a win over one of the best wrestlers in recent memory on the grandest stage of them all is something that will significantly further Punk's career.

The two have wrestled each other on a few different occasions during Jericho's first return to the company, and each one ended up being the best match on that night's card. Their similar height, weight and skills make them the perfect opponents.

Jericho isn't exactly the biggest wrestler of his time, but when he's been given opportunities to have storylines with opponents more his size, like Punk and Rey Mysterio, the matches have been superb.

Punk is arguably the most technically sound wrestler in the company today, and if it's not him, it's Y2J. When you put two guys who know how tell a story through their moves in the ring like Punk and Jericho, there's almost no chance of being disappointed.

Punk needs this victory to ensure that his recent push doesn't go stale and to ensure that he continues to reign as WWE Champion. The past year has been a phenomenal one for Punk in the ring and on the mic, but his hype stalled when Triple H and Kevin Nash tried to piggybank on his rise to fame.

Jericho has mentioned in the past that he doesn't want to have a big retirement ceremony, that he'd rather be dragged out of the ring kicking and screaming and getting fired. What I think the former Undisputed Champion means is that he would rather go out helping someone else's career than get the big ceremony celebrating his own.

If this were to be Jericho's last match (and I hope it isn't) or just his last match for a little while, he needs to and would gladly lose to CM Punk tonight.

There's been some great buildup to the Jericho/Punk battle, and the Chicago-born wrestler has to have a decisive victory at the showcase of the immortals, WrestleMania.
