WWE WrestleMania 28: Is What We Saw a Sign of Things to Come for Brodus Clay?
After having 14 hours to think about what I witnessed last night with Brodus Clay bringing out several "Mama" dancers, I still do not know what to make of it.
The segment came across as poorly executed on TV—maybe it came across better live. The one thing I am sure about is that this does not spell out a big push to come for Clay.
This was an excuse to have a little fun, but I think that it was put in at the wrong time. Having this happen right before a main event kind of ruined the whole flow of the show for me.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
I know Brodus' character has been silly from day one, but it was a refreshing kind of silly that I could also see being a force to be reckoned with in WWE.
After last night, I have the fear that he will be heading toward "comedy gimmick" status shortly, which is a shame, given how strong WWE was planning on pushing him.
Back before he returned to Raw as the Funkasaurus, he was being billed as an unstoppable monster through video packages that showed him dominating anyone he faced.
While he is still making short work of the jobbers WWE has been feeding him, he has yet to prove he can maintain a longer match with a top-tier talent.
There is no denying the potential that Clay possesses, but if they keep booking him as someone who brings out a whole bridge club to dance, then I fear this may be the end for Clay.
Comedy characters have their place in WWE—it's why WWE is different from the rest—but when you have someone with Clay's athleticism and size, you have to use him the right way.
Maybe I am wrong, and I hope that is the case. Maybe this was just a one-off silly segment that will never affect Clay whatsoever, but I know better.
I have seen too many wrestlers go from hot to cold in a single day to know that Clay is safe from suffering the same fate as guys like Doink.
When Doink first appeared in WWE he was not just a fun-loving clown—he was a sick, demented clown more akin to those seen in IT and Killer Clowns from Outer Space, a film that still haunts my dreams after having watched it at the age of four.
The fate of Clay as a real threat to those on top or a comedy gimmick is still up in the air, and we will have to wait and see how things play out in the coming weeks, but for the sake of entertainment value, I hope Clay is not moving in a direction of someone who is simply used for a cheap laugh.
What do you think? Was last night a sign of things to come, or am I making a mountain out of a mole-hill?
