2012 NFL Free Agency: Which Teams Got the Most Value from Their Roster Moves?

David LevinApr 3, 2012

There are 32 teams in the NFL. They all have the opportunity to make their rosters better. Some succeeded and some did not. And then, some did better than others.

Those who got the most value for their decision making will reap the benefits in about four months.

And there still could be more to come. Free agency could be a really nice early Christmas gift for those who have been good about making sure they fill gaps and broken puzzle pieces.

These teams got the most value for their spending this past month.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

1 of 7

This team really stunk it up last season.

Now with a new coach and new toys to play with on offense and defense, Greg Schiano will have a new set of keys to improve this team.

The Buccaneers started by signing Vincent Jackson to catch passes from Josh Freeman. Then they signed Carl Nicks, the best guard in the NFL, away from the Saints.

And to top it off, the team added Eric Wright to help a back line that was a broken dam last season.

Yep, things look better in Tampa Bay.

Washington Redskins

Again, this team continues to improve and the best is yet to come.

Signing Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan were crucial to the team speed on the outside.

Washington's defense was pretty good last season, but the offense faltered on many occasions. Maybe the infusion of speed and receivers, plus the addition of Robert Griffin III in the draft, will have everyone in Washington, D.C. smiling.

And that includes Mike Shanahan and Daniel Snyder.

Buffalo Bills

Everything rides on the signing of Mario Williams.

The defensive end will help this team in all facets of the defensive scheme the Bills play.

While he is not a cure for an erratic passing game, he can be a disruptive force who may prove to be just as important in the locker room as he is on the field.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers made it to the NFC Championship game. They have no glaring weaknesses and may have been one of the huge winners in free agency.

The rich get richer.

Randy Moss and Mario Manningham along with Michael Crabtree and then Vernon Davis. Wow!

Then the running game, which was already pretty solid with Frank Gore, gets a huge boost when Brandon Jacobs signed with the team.

Cincinnati Bengals

Maybe the biggest coup of the Bengals' free agency is the signing of BenJarvus Green-Ellis to carry the running load. Bush's strength and speed will be a good alternative to Andy Dalton's passing game.

The defense may have lost Jonathan Fanene and Frostee Rucker to free agency, but Derrick Harvey and Jamaal Anderson were signed to fill the gaps.

The team also re-signed Reggie Nelson to help in the secondary.

New England Patriots

Captain Hoodie does it again.

He gets Brandon Lloyd and then re-signs Deion Branch and Wes Welker. He then strengthened the running game with fullbacks Tony Fiammetta and Spencer Larsen.

New England also got a nice pass-rusher in Jonathan Fanene and could be in the market for Cedric Benson.

Yes, the Patriots just restock and win.

Dallas Cowboys

When you can add to starters to the secondary in Brandon Carr and Brodney Pool and then find one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league, that is a pretty good free-agency period for the 'Boys.

The Cowboys may have lost Laurent Robinson to Jacksonville, but they still have Myles Austin and Dez Bryant on the outside and can find a receiver to fill the slot in the draft (maybe Brian Quick of Appalachian State).
