New Jersey Nets vs. Golden State Warriors: Gerald Wallace Clutch in Nets' Win
Clutch would be the best word to describe Gerald Wallace's performance in the New Jersey Nets' 102-100 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Friday night.
Wallace scored 24 points and added 18 rebounds along with stellar defense in the winning effort. It was Wallace's 10 points over the last six minutes of the game that was the difference and helped propel New Jersey to victory.
But despite all that, it was his defense that left the lasting impression.
With just seconds left in the game and his team clinging to a two-point lead, Wallace blocked Charles Jenkins' shot attempt to tie the game as time expired, sealing the deal for the Nets.
As a team, the Nets fed off of Wallace's extra effort, erasing a 19-point deficit in the second half. They were down by as many as 14 to begin the final quarter of the game.
Gerald Green dropped two huge baskets to tie the game and take over the lead before Wallace got his now-infamous block.
It's no secret Wallace has been a disappointment for New Jersey so far, but he has tough expectations to live up to.
Often called the "Plan B," Wallace's value could come in the form of a No. 4 overall pick in the NBA draft going to the Portland Trail Blazers via Brooklyn.
Wallace will need a lot more nights like these if he wants to quiet the critics.
