WrestleMania 28: Why Undertaker's Streak Must Be Saved for Rising Superstar

Tim DanielsApr 1, 2012

Triple H won't end Undertaker's undefeated WrestleMania streak tonight. The inclusion of Shawn Michaels was done to keep fans guessing, but the WWE isn't going to end one of its best storylines ever to elevate somebody like Triple H.

If the streak ever ends—and there's no guarantee it will—the perfect circumstances would need to arise. A rising star must be so promising that the company feels giving him the ultimate push (ending the streak) would lead to massive things for him and the company.

Wrestling fans love to talk about terms like pushes and burials, but for the most part, these things are minute details during a character build. That wouldn't be the case when it came to beating Undertaker at WrestleMania, however. It would truly provide an unimaginable boost.

Sooner or later guys like The Rock, Shawn Michaels and Undertaker aren't going to be around to save the WrestleMania card anymore.

At that point, the WWE will need a fresh face to take the wrestling world by storm like those guys did. John Cena and CM Punk won't be able to achieve the desire buyrate by themselves. Beating the Undertaker would allow somebody else to reach that level and potentially exceed it.

So, who will it be? I don't think anybody knows. The person likely isn't even on the main roster yet. They might be developing their skills in FCW or working their way around the independent circuit waiting for their big break.

Vince McMahon understands he has the Undertaker card in his back pocket. He's not going to use it unless he's confident something major will develop. It might be next year, five years from now, or he might never use it at all.

One thing's for sure—he won't use it on an established superstar. Not only would that be a weak way for Undertaker's streak to end after so many successful defenses, but the results wouldn't be nearly as impactful as a young star doing the job.

Triple H and Undertaker are going to put on an awesome show during their Hell in a Cell match, but don't be tricked into thinking the streak will end. Reaching the 20-0 mark will be a milestone remembered forever.

It will also add to the boost the next major star receives when they end the streak, whenever that day may arrive.
