What Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez Must Do to Coexist and Help Jets Win Super Bowl

John RozumMay 31, 2018

According to Dennis Waszak of the Associated Press, Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez do believe they can work well together:

"

"I think we'll have a great working relationship," Tebow told the sea of reporters at his introductory news conference Monday. "We talked about that, just supporting one another in our roles. I'm excited about that opportunity. I think we'll have a great relationship and hopefully we'll be able to thrive together."

"

As for Sanchez, he remains positive and appears to be just as ready to get going:

"As the quarterback of the Jets, I'm getting wins for this team," Sanchez said. "That's my primary focus. If Tim is going to help us win, I'm excited about that."

"Our team goal is what's most important, and that's winning."

"

Okay, so Tebow, Sanchez and the Jets have gotten off to a good start. The question now, though, is how long into the season does this optimism last and do the Jets position themselves to become AFC title contenders?

Well, in order to best the rest in the AFC, here are some things that Sanchez and Tebow must do while coexisting to help Gang Green bring home Vince Lombardi for the first time since Broadway Joe.

Remain Positive

If there's one thing that Tim Tebow can be known for, it's always having the upbeat and positive attitude. And despite seeing him in a new uniform, we shouldn't expect anything different from him.

Sanchez also has displayed a high level of character, especially after how the 2011 season finished and the offseason began.

Although he was scrutinized quite a bit, we didn't hear much, if anything, from the quarterback and according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, things appear to be fine with receiver Santonio Holmes.

Provided that both Tebow and Sanchez can build off each other's outlook, their chemistry will make its way through the team. And, if there's anything we learned from Tebow from last year in Denver, it's that possessing that kind of positive attitude really does help a team turn its season around.

Engaging Support

This is where a situation that exists between Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow can really hit depth and create another level of positive influence.

Regardless of who's taking snaps during the course of a game, it comes down to engaging in communication. If Tebow gets in the game, when off the field it's Sanchez's duty to help with in-game adjustments, audibles and pre-snap reads.

The same goes for when Sanchez is playing; Tebow must engage with providing input on specific game situations and how to exploit the defense. This two-way street of communication must also be active during position meetings, on-field drills and when taking team reps in practice.

Both must be willing to take constructive criticism from one another and work with the coaches on certain game plans and schemes.

Now all this may go without saying. However, not every franchise is the same. Those who communicate and work better together only benefit the team.

Compete Against One Another

What it comes down to is making the other guy better. In the film room, practice, the weight room, conditioning and all the cognitive aspects involved with playing quarterback, Tebow and Sanchez must compete to make the other improve.

And with the opportunity to run a dynamic offense under offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, the combo of Tebow and Sanchez can really mess with a defense's game plan.

Competing against one another is also needed for the betterment of each quarterback's numbers. Last season, Tebow finished with a 46.5 completion percentage and Sanchez's was just 56.7.

So, obviously both need to enhance their accuracy, which is one of the more important components to dicing up defenses. This can be improved by intense practice sessions of making quicker reads when dropping back, improved footwork for mechanics and manipulating coverages.

All that said, if Tebow or Sanchez fail to compete for the starting role, the quarterback who ultimately becomes the starter will not improve much throughout the season.

In short, knowing that the backup can take the starter's job at any time and play just as good if not better is what will get the Jets to the next level.
