San Antonio Spurs: What Will a 5th Title Mean for Tim Duncan?
When discussing the greatest power forwards to ever play in the NBA, many people almost immediately look to the San Antonio Spurs' Tim Duncan. Few have exhibited his gamesmanship, leadership and overall skill.
Duncan has amassed quite the resume in his 15-year tenure in San Antonio. The man has won four titles (including three finals MVPs), two regular season MVPs and is a 13-time all-star.
He has been the backbone of a San Antonio Spurs organization that has been the model of consistency since the time Duncan arrived. Every year Duncan's teams are a threat to the title, and Duncan has been able to sustain this mold throughout his career.
Now in the twilight of his career, Timmy is looking to go out with a bang.
Duncan is already regarded as the best at his position, but winning a fifth ring would have him among the greatest big men in the history of the league.
We tend to leave Duncan out of the talk among the Chamberlain's, Russell's and Abdul-Jabbar's.
But another title should at least allow him in the conversation.
No big man can match Duncan's three NBA Finals MVPs, except Shaquille O'Neal, and he played alongside one of the greatest players of all-time in Kobe Bryant.
To win five titles in an era where only Kobe Bryant can boast the same speaks volume.
If Tim Duncan does indeed get a fifth ring this year, we have to bump him up the list.
