2012 NFL Free Agency: Cincinnati Bengals and 5 Teams Planning to Make Moves
You know somewhere in a boardroom or in an office underneath a stadium, there are conversations going on about what your favorite NFL team is going to do next.
Buy, sell, trade, move down in the draft. Maybe work a deal to move above a division rival and steal a coveted player.
And then, there is the rest of free agency. What about those players who are still on the board? What about those golden nuggets that will come in and make your team better when it looked like they may not pan out at all? Can there be peace in the world if teams don't take a chance on someone or more than one player that truly could make difference?
It might be the kind of difference that could mean a playoff run or maybe sitting at home after the holidays.
These teams could make a push and make a move, or several moves, before the free-agency period ends.
Jacksonville Jaguars
1 of 6Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan, Robert Meachem, Vincent Jackson. Four good receivers, and none are wearing black and teal.
The Jaguars acquired Laurent Robinson from Dallas and will hope and pray Cecil Shorts, Brian Robiskie and maybe a Chastin West will be good players, along with Mike Thomas and Robinson.
The team also will look to add to the group in the draft.
Note: The team's two best receivers of all time, Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell were free-agent signings.
Denver Broncos
2 of 6Denver got their prized quarterback in Peyton Manning and added Jacob Tamme from the Colts. Will there be others?
Denver needs more offensive weapons. While they have a strong running game, the receivers are thin. Yes, Demaryius Thomas can be Reggie Wayne or Marvin Harrison. Eric Decker could be a version of Brandon Stokley. But if they can nab another set of hands, they would be better and more potent.
Remember, Manning is the master of working with average talent and making it shine.
Washington Redskins
3 of 6They came out and signed Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan, and the talent in the receiving corps got 10 times better.
Now, add a quarterback in the draft and some more horses up front, and let the running game work for you.
Can Roy Helu be the horse the team rode when injuries took over the offense? Can they find a receiver in free agency to become another possession guy?
Is there a pass-rusher they can add to the rotation or a defensive back that can help on special teams as well?
These are questions that still need to be answered.
New England Patriots
4 of 6They received Jonathan Fanene from Cincinnati to help with pass rush. What else is in store for this team?
Bill Belichick may not be done wheeling and dealing.
The Patriots are not ones to make lots of moves, but management tries to make those moves count, like when they draft and trade down for more picks.
The team could not keep BenJarvus Green-Ellis and, therefore, may be in the market for a running back in free agency or the draft.
Either way, look for them to do something before the deadline.
Miami Dolphins
5 of 6The team is being criticized by its own fans outside its stadium for the moves it's made.
No Peyton Manning.
No Matt Flynn.
I think you have read this before.
The Dolphins traded Brandon Marshall and also have receiving issues. Stephen Ross, the team's owner, needs to do something before the draft to show the fans and the NFL that the team is not playing for the first pick in next year's draft to acquire Matt Barkley.
Cincinnati Bengals
6 of 6They have acquired a running back in BenJarvus Green-Ellis to help the offense. They also helped the defensive line by signing Jamaal Anderson to offset losses of Frostee Rucker and Jonathan Fanene.
The team reportedly has been talking to former Jaguars defensive end Matt Roth. If he comes aboard, the defensive line could be better than last year.
This team does not appear to be done dealing and could add a free-agent receiver to its offense.
If the Steelers or Ravens take a step back, this team has the talent and youth to take a step forward and make some noise.
