Pat Robertson Should've Kept His Mouth Shut About Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning

Jesse ReedJun 7, 2018

Pat Robertson put his foot in his mouth once again, this time weighing in on the Denver Broncos decision to bring in Peyton Manning and cut Tim Tebow loose.

During one of his recent appearances on the religious show, the 700 Club, Robertson said:

"

And you just ask yourself, OK, so Peyton Manning was a tremendous MVP quarterback, but he's been injured. If that injury comes back, Denver will find itself without a quarterback. And in my opinion, it would serve them right. (H/T Fox Sports)

In years past, Robertson has made some stunning, if not altogether psychotic, statements that turned out to be questionable, at best. He has been known to make prognostications and predictions about everything from presidential elections to terrorist threats.

One such example many of you may remember is the time when Robertson said: "I think George Bush is going to win in a walk. I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout election in 2004." (H/T Orlando Sentinel)

Then, in 2007, Robertson claimed God told him that there would be a horrific terrorist attack on American soil: "I’m not necessarily saying it’s going to be nuclear. The Lord didn’t say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that." (H/T MSNBC)

Robertson and men like him who believe they are the mouthpiece of God are dangerous, because people do actually listen to what they say.

People foolishly listen and then take on those same beliefs.

This latest comment, which is utterly asinine by the way, isn't just foolish either.

Robertson says he is a man of God. The God he worships is a God of mercy and compassion; a God who tells us not to judge one another.

Jesus Christ himself never once judged anyone except those who claimed the ability to judge themselves. He called them hypocrites.

Now Robertson is publicly judging the Broncos for having, "treated him [Tebow] shabbily."

Not only has he judged them, but Robertson has also given what he considers to be a proper sentence for their sins: Manning should get injured. That, according to Robertson, would serve them right for treating Tebow badly.

Are you serious?

If you are a Christian, then you should know that Jesus told his disciples to turn the other cheek. Not only that, but judging any situation and determining that you know the will of God in that situation is the beginning of foolishness.

What if God's plan all along was to get Tebow in New York?

That isn't for me to say.

What I do know is this: The real issue here is that once again Robertson has spoken on a subject he knows nothing about, claiming to have the backing of a God who opposes everything he is saying.

Christian men, especially ones with the kind of clout Robertson have, should be working to promote peace and speak love.

Instead, what we see here is a message of bitterness and vengeance. This isn't the kind of message I support, and I hope with all my heart that not one person listened to what Robertson said and took that message into their own heart.

Good luck to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, and good luck to Tim Tebow and the New York Jets in the upcoming NFL season.

May it be an injury-free year for all.
