WWE Wrestlemania 28: Match-by-Match Predictions and Event Spoilers
WrestleMania 28 is poised to be the biggest event WWE has put on since the Battle of the Billionaires set a company record with 1.2 million pay-per-view buys.
Whether this show can top that one remains to be seen, but it can't be said that WWE didn't do everything in its power to make sure that it is a huge financial and commercial success.
With all the business talk out of the way now, it is time to start breaking down what we are expecting to happen from this card.
As of right now, there are eight matches set for the show. There are varying levels of importance attached to each match, but at the very least you will get to see all of the top WWE stars on the same card for the biggest show of the year.
In addition to making predictions for all of the matches, we are going to use some rumors that have been floating around to make sure that we are giving you the best possible information about why the finish will be what it is.
So with one week to go before the biggest spectacle in wrestling, sit back and enjoy the official predictions with some possible spoilers for what is to come after WrestleMania is over.
Kelly Kelly & Maria Menounos vs. Beth Phoenix & Eve Torres
1 of 8Nothing really fancy or spectacular to say about this match. It should be short, poorly executed and the celebrities team will go over.
The real question is, whether or not WWE will actually plug Maria Menounos as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars since that runs head to head on Monday night with Raw?
Somehow it doesn't seem like something Vince McMahon would do.
Prediction: Kelly Kelly & Maria Menounos win via pinfall
Team Teddy Long vs. Team John Laurinaitis
2 of 8The feud that you didn't know you were getting, nor were you really asking to see.
Comprising Team Teddy is Santino Marella, R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, Zack Ryder, The Great Khali and one more spot to be determined.
Team Johnny counters with David Otunga, Mark Henry, Christian, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler and one more spot to be determined.
The two most likely candidates to get the final spot for Team Teddy appear to be Rey Mysterio or Evan Bourne.
Mysterio is clearly the bigger draw, but his recovery from knee surgery last summer has him playing a return slow.
Bourne has two strikes against him due to failing drug tests. His most-recent suspension ended on March 18, so he is ready and available.
Alberto Del Rio has been wrestling at house shows, and would be a good addition to Team Johnny.
According to the Wrestling Observer, there has been talk of having Lord Tensai return as a henchman for Johnny Ace, though nothing has been set in stone as of right now. That would suggest that Team Johnny is going to walk away victorious.
In a feud no one cares about, so be it.
Prediction: Team Johnny wins, and John Laurinaitis gains control of Raw and SmackDown
Intercontinental Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Big Show
3 of 8Though it was once rumored that Big Show would be wrestling Shaquille O'Neal on this show, something happened at some point, which gives Cody Rhodes a much-deserved spot on the card.
From a long-term perspective, having Rhodes in the match is probably the best thing for WWE. He is a young star gaining momentum and being on the biggest show of the year is a big positive for him.
There is no good reason to put Show over in this match. He is a novelty act at this point, able to get over because of his size, but not really worthy of being more than a placeholder for other stars.
Rhodes needs the rub in this match, though it would not be a surprise to see him get disqualified to retain his title.
Prediction: Rhodes wins via DQ
Randy Orton vs. Kane
4 of 8How bad does Randy Orton feel right now? He is one of the biggest stars in WWE, yet he is locked in a nothing feud heading into the biggest show of the year.
Kane has done nothing since returning. His feud with John Cena was terrible. This one isn't much better, but at least creative hasn't tried to ruin it with a hokey story about hate or something like that.
Orton just wants to get out of this feud healthy and ready to move on to (hopefully) bigger and better things.
The creative team is rumored to be looking at a possible feud between Orton and Lord Tensai, though that could just be a red herring to throw fans off the scent when Tensai actually debuts with Johnny Ace.
Either way, Orton is going to be protected in this feud.
Prediction: Orton wins via pinfall
World Championship: Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Sheamus
5 of 8Everything about this feud points to a Sheamus win. He has been on a hot streak since winning the Royal Rumble. He is one of Triple H's best friends, which goes a long way to making you a big deal.
The only thing that gives me pause in saying that Sheamus is a lock to go over is predictability. We talked about it earlier, but Vince McMahon loves to throw a curveball wherever he can to make the dirt sheets look foolish.
It happened last year, when Edge beat Alberto Del Rio. The plan all along was for Del Rio to win the world title in that match, but everyone figured it out, so it had to be changed.
Either way, it sounds like these two will still be feuding after WrestleMania, so let's just hope they get enough time to put on a good match.
Prediction: Sheamus wins via pinfall
WWE Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Chris Jericho
6 of 8Before we get into who wins, it should be put on record that this will be the best pure wrestling match on the card.
It would be a complete surprise if these two didn't get at least 20-25 minutes to work the match that they want to. In fact, there is talk of having them open the show.
Some fans might not like the idea of the WWE championship being the opening match, but it makes a lot of sense when you think about it. They won't have to worry about cutting time in case other matches go long, and they will have the crowd hot right away because it's the first match.
Jericho's immediate future appears to be with the company, since he doesn't have a planned tour with his band until the summer, so that could tilt the scales in his favor.
Still, Punk winning seems to be the most logical scenario. But with Extreme Rules taking place in Chicago, WWE could opt to have Jericho go over at WrestleMania, then give Punk his win back a few weeks later.
That's not how it should go, but WWE does love that 50-50 booking.
Prediction: Punk retains via submission
Hell in a Cell: The Undertaker vs. Triple H w/ Shawn Michaels as Special Referee
7 of 8The only real mystery surrounding this match is how they get to The Undertaker winning. As good as Triple H and Shawn Michaels have been at trying to convince us that The Streak is going to end, we should know better than that by now.
Michaels is obviously the wild card in this whole equation. He wants to make sure that Undertaker knows why he is the referee in this match: To make sure that he has some hand in the ending of The Streak.
Triple H and Undertaker are going to go all-out for this match. Neither one is going to work a full-time schedule ever again. Undertaker probably won't work another match until next year's WrestleMania.
One of the most interesting parts of this Hell In a Cell match is the possibility of blood. Think about it: Undertaker and Triple H are two of the most powerful stars in the company, they aren't going to get fired or be harshly penalized if they go against the royal decree, and it will add a lot to this match.
Plus, the fact that both Undertaker and Triple H are older and severely limited in what they can do, blood will add a lot of drama to this match. I am not predicting that we see it, but if ever there was a WWE match to have it, this is it.
Prediction: Undertaker wins via pinfall
John Cena vs. The Rock
8 of 8Here is the match that we have waited to see for one year.
After saying for years that he was done wrestling, The Rock has decided to step back in the ring for his first singles match since 2003.
John Cena was the perfect opponent for so many reasons. Chief among them, the harsh words he said in 2008 about Rock for abandoning WWE.
As for the match, there seems to be a divide among the wrestling fans that I have talked to, which is admittedly a small sample, about who should win the match.
For me, it has never been in doubt. A vast majority of people going to the show or buying the show on pay-per-view want to see Rock win. If I live in a bubble, tell me I am wrong.
The feeling among fans who feel that Rock has to put Cena over to symbolically pass the torch has never made sense to me.
First, the idea that wins and losses still mean anything in WWE is laughable. Creative has watered down what a win means and what a loss does to a push that the line is so blurred you can't see the difference.
Second, Rock really only has to pass the torch if he is never wrestling again. That is when it would make the most sense, because he can say that he gave it his all and the better man won. Now he can go back to Hollywood.
However, we have all heard the rumors about a rematch or possible trilogy between these two, it doesn't make sense for Rock to lose this match.
WWE wants to give fans the happy moment to close WrestleMania, and the moment that fans want to see is Rock standing tall after an epic encounter with Cena in the biggest main event in a long time.
Honestly, I don't care how the match ends, as long as Miz is nowhere to be seen.
Prediction: The Rock wins via pinfall
