Condit vs. Ellenberger and 5 Other Fights That Must Happen
There are always fights that fans are dying to see; fights that need to be made, as they make so much sense and will be fan-friendly affairs.
Fight fans have been calling for what they want, as Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin III and Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II have been made, much to the delight of fans.
Let's take a look at some fights that need to be made as soon as possible.
Carlos Condit vs. Jake Ellenberger
1 of 6I know that Jake Ellenbeger just signed on to fight Martin Kampmann for a No. 1 contender's bout, and I know Carlos Condit is going to sit and wait for Georges St-Pierre, but what is the point of an interim title if you do not defend it?
Ellenberger has emerged as one of the best welterweights in the world and has done enough to earn a title shot at this point. Condit, meanwhile, is the interim champion at the moment, waiting to find out who the undisputed champion will be when St-Pierre gets back.
Condit should defend his belt before the St-Pierre fight, and Ellenberger is the man who it should be defended against.
Frank Mir vs. Fabricio Werdum
2 of 6This is a match I have been waiting to see for a while, and now that Fabricio Werdum is in the UFC, it is a possibility.
Right now, Frank Mir is scheduled to fight Cain Velasquez, a bout that is touted as a No. 1 contender's fight. Should Mir lose, I think the Mir-Werdum fight needs to be made.
Both are submission specialists with decent striking ability. Watching this fight would be interesting, especially if Mir wanted to go the ground with Werdum.
This fight needs to happen.
Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo
3 of 6These men are not in the same weight class, but Jose Aldo is a big featherweight, and Frankie Edgar is a small lightweight.
This is the super fight that makes the most sense, as they are the closest in weight. Edgar is no longer the champion but is getting a rematch. Aldo is set to defend his belt at UFC 149 in Calgary.
After these two fights are finished, despite the outcomes, this fight should happen.
Edgar is as tough as they come and is very skilled. Aldo is a brutal striker with a great ground game. Their well-roundedness is certain to bring fireworks.
Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson
4 of 6I am excited for the Rashad Evans-Jon Jones fight coming up, but this fight excites me even more.
Everybody wants to see Jones get his chin tested, and most thought it would be against Lyoto Machida. Although Machida is a powerful fighter, there are few fighters with as much power in their hands as Dan Henderson.
Jones would present plenty of problems for Henderson, but Henderson may also be the toughest fighter in MMA. Henderson's clinch and power punching would present a big problem for Jones.
This fight would draw serious attention from pay-per-view buyers.
Joseph Benavidez vs. Ian McCall
5 of 6This fight may happen sooner rather than later, depending on if Ian McCall can get past Demetrious Johnson in their rematch.
This is my ideal fight for the first-ever fight for the flyweight title. I personally thought McCall won his semifinal fight against Johnson, but the draw really didn't bother me (other than the fact that it shouldn't have happened).
McCall vs. Joseph Benavidez would be an insane fight with a crazy pace, great technique and the potential for Fight of the Year.
Again, McCall must beat Johnson for this to happen soon.
Diego Sanchez vs. Nick Diaz 2
6 of 6The first fight was fantastic, and both men have gotten better since the first encounter.
Nick Diaz just dropped a title fight to Carlos Condit and has "retired." I don't think that will last, and when he comes back, Diego Sanchez could meet him in yet another barn burner.
Both guys have great conditioning, iron chins and a relentless pace. It would be a great main event for a Fox or FX card, as the excitement would really draw fans.
It all depends on Diaz coming out of retirement, but it would be awesome to see a rematch from a classic brawl.
