Deron Williams: New Jersey Nets Playing Like They Don't Want to Keep PG
The Nets' goal this season is to keep Deron Williams in their organization beyond this offseason. He will opt out of his contract at the end of this season and officially become a free agent.
The two teams that seem to be his likely destination are back with the Nets or in his hometown Dallas with the Mavericks.
In the beginning of the season, Williams expressed interest in staying with the Nets as long as they brought in talent around him. They have actually done that, drafting MarShon Brooks and trading for Gerald Wallace.
However, since the trade deadline the Nets are 0-4 and have lost to teams they should beat. The Nets have lost to the Hornets, Cavaliers and Wizards and are playing like they do not want to keep Williams on their team.
Williams has recently told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News that the remaining games on the schedule will not impact his decision this offseason. That cannot be the truth, because he has been extremely frustrated lately as the Nets have struggled.
The Nets' situation may be more appealing to the star point guard as the idea of coming back to Brook Lopez, Brooks and Wallace in Brooklyn sounds better than going to an aging Dirk Nowitzki and a team that doesn't have a real plan.
However, the Mavericks do at least win. The most important thing for Williams is winning, and the way the Nets have been playing, he may think that there is no chance that the Nets can win in the near future.
Although Williams may have said that the results of the last games in the season will not sway his decision, the Nets have to leave him with a good taste in his mouth and give him faith.
