Matt Jarvis and the Top 10 EPL Relegation Transfer Steals

Thomas AtzenhofferMar 29, 2012

The relegation battle is always a hotly contested part of the English Premier League's run-in.

With only six points separating 16th through 20th place, there is still time for any of the five clubs to be part of the three relegated.

Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Queens Park Rangers, Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all hoping to avoid the worst fate of any EPL club and succumb to the drop.

However, the clubs that do suffer the humiliation of relegation will also have to deal with the financial implications of losing EPL television rights and status.

This will cause fire-sales of prospects and stars in most cases, and there are several to be had at a deal from any of the sides that fall.

Matt Jarvis

1 of 11

Matt Jarvis is without a doubt the best player on Wolverhampton Wanderers' roster.

The England national team winger has been doing his best to lift the club in recent weeks since the sacking of Mick McCarthy and has scored two goals in the club's last five games.

However, his efforts have only aided in one draw out of those.

Bleacher Report's Will Tidey sat down with Jarvis for an exclusive interview just over a week ago, and you can read the full story here.

Steven Fletcher

Other than Matt Jarvis, Steven Fletcher is the best offensive difference maker that Wolves have at their disposal.

The former Glasgow Ranger and Burnley forward has scored ten goals for the club this season. He could offer an attacking solution to one of the lower-finishing clubs that do not go down if he is available for purchase this summer.

Victor Moses

Wigan Athletic's Victor Moses has been a bright spot for the club this season, with impressive performances despite their poor run of form.

Moses has picked up much of the slack that has been left by Hugo Rodallega, who has been uninspired this season as he looks forward to a summer transfer away.

Mohamed Diame

4 of 11

Although he has dropped to the bench for part of the last month, Mohamed Diame is a good-looking future prospect in the center of the park.

The 24-year-old can be an enforcer as well as distributor and is full of growth potential from his raw talent, which still needs to be honed.

Bobby Zamora

5 of 11

Bobby Zamora may be one of several to have just joined Queens Park Rangers in hopes of insuring survival, but right now he is one that will be hoping for it most.

He left a solid Fulham club in search of more pitch time in January.

However, his arrival has not yet proved that it is going to guarantee survival, and his price tag may see him moved on quickly if he does not help keep the Rangers in the EPL.

Djibril Cisse

6 of 11

Djibril Cisse represents the other half of the Bobby Zamora partnership that was brought in to stave off relegation.

However, so far he has not seen as much time on the pitch as needed, thanks to already having had his first red card of the season.

With a pedigree of top clubs such as Italian Serie A side SS Lazio and fellow EPL club Liverpool, where he was a crucial penalty kick converter in their 2005 Champions League title, he is not likely to stay in London if Rangers are in the Npower Championship.

Stuart Holden

7 of 11

United States international and Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stuart Holden could possibly be sacrificed if the club go down.

Although he has been injured since September of 2011, his value is still enough that it could bring some financial respite to the club if sold after a drop.

Some lower-finishing clubs or newly-promoted sides to the EPL could use a fit and healthy Holden come next fall.

Darren Pratley

8 of 11

Darren Pratley may wish he had not left Swansea City, as his former club sits comfortably in the middle of the table while his new side, Bolton, are fighting for their life a point above the drop zone.

Pratley is nonetheless talented, as he proved at Swansea, but has not had the weapons on Bolton's roster to work with that he apparently had had back in Wales.

The poor form he has shown at Bolton will, for his sake, hopefully just be cast as an off year due to having to settle in at a new club, but he is just as likely to be offloaded whether the club drop or not.

Junior Hoilett

9 of 11

Blackburn Rovers look like they will remain up at the rate they are going, but that does not mean that young starlet Junior Hoilett will stay.

Hoilett is the second leading scorer with six goals and is the top assist provider for the club with five.

His talents are likely to be found elsewhere next season, whether Rovers are in the EPL or not.

Steven Nzonzi

10 of 11

Blackburn's Steven Nzonzi is another youngster that is more than likely to be out the exit door come summer, despite Rovers' fortunes.

The 23-year-old is tied with Junior Hoilett at the top of the club's assist statistic with five and has added another single goal this season.

Conclusion

11 of 11

The relegation battle is raging, and with five clubs still looking susceptible to taking the fall, in all likelihood it is only going to get better.

Who do you believe are the biggest steals available from the possible relegation clubs?
