Alabama Football Recruiting: Tide Won't Sweat Decommitment of 4-Star Artie Burns

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

The Alabama Crimson Tide are in the business of winning national championships and putting out NFL prospects.

Their coach, Nick Saban, specializes in working with secondary players.

The 6'0", 170-pound, defensive back was one of nine players already pledged to the Crimson Tide, but the rising senior told ESPN TideNation's Greg Ostendorf that he is no longer committed to UA:

"

I’ve been thinking about it. Me, my coach and my mom, we had talked about it. They thought I should take my time and look at other schools, see what schools have a better opportunity for me. If I decommitted, it’s going to help me look at other schools better.

"

If a chance at success and the NFL is what Burns wants, then he doesn't need to go anywhere else, but those are far from the only things that play into choosing a college.

The Miami native will be pushed hard by in-state powers Florida State and Miami, and he's reportedly put the 'Noles and Hurricanes in his top five along with Louisville, LSU and USC.

The Tide aren't sweating, not in the least.

There is perhaps no better closer than Saban in the college game, and he knows that he'll land the kids he needs when all is said and done.

It is only March, and we still have an entire season of college and high school ball to play, and then some, before these kids have to sign their letters of intent.

Defensive back is one position Saban and his staff are pushing for hard in the 2013 class. Of the now eight commitments, they currently have none that play in the secondary, but they have 10 offers to defensive backs on the table already.

This is the University of Alabama, and it's not going to worry about a 17- or 18-year-old kid who doesn't know what he wants to do 11 months before signing day.

The Tide will certainly stay involved, and it wouldn't be surprising if he eventually recommits, but for the time being there is nothing for 'Bama fans to worry about.
