Miami Heat: LeBron James Thinks Derek Fisher Is a Good Fit
LeBron James knows just what to say, even if it's for appearances. According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, when asked if Fisher can help the Miami Heat make a title run this year, LeBron said:
"One thing you know about Derek Fisher is that he's a winner; he's not afraid of the moment and he's won multiple championships... I don't know what our plans are but I don't see it as a bad fit it if happens. What we have we're comfortable with, but he could fit anyone's team because of his leadership and his commitment to winning.
"
While LeBron is saying all the right things, in case Fisher ends up on the Heat once his free-agency begins, he seems by no means emphatic about the veteran clutch-shooter joining his squad. Windhorst also reports that after interviewing several NBA executives and coaches that opinions vary about what Fisher can still do for a team.
There's no doubt Fisher is in shape and can add to any locker room. He's also still got the ability to be clutch, but where he lacks is quickness and overall production. His stats are the lowest he's been in years, so it's his intangibles that are likely to bring him on with a team.
The Heat, however, would not be a good match. They are a perimeter team and that's where Fisher is weakest right now. When asked about his thoughts on Fisher, Dwyane Wade said,
"I'm not focused on anybody that's not here... It's not my call and I'm not worried about it.
"
Also according to ESPN, Fisher has a short list of teams he wants to go to and the Heat are on it. In 2010, he considered going there, before the Los Angeles Lakers signed him to the $10 million contract.
