NFL Rumors: Matt Flynn Would Be Foolish To Sign with Seahawks over Dolphins

Jeff ChaseJun 3, 2018

Matt Flynn has a big decision to make in the coming days, and that will likely be the choice of either becoming a Seattle Seahawk or a Miami Dolphin.

Both teams are in a heavy pursuit for the former Green Bay Packers backup quarterback and according to ESPN's Jason Wilde, Flynn is exploring his options between the two franchise.

"

#Packers UFA QB Matt Flynn won't immediately sign with @Seahawks; will leave to take scheduled visit to @MiamiDolphins, per @NFL source.

According to Yahoo's Jason Cole, Flynn prefers to join the Dolphins in South Beach, but he may not be getting the offer he is looking for. It will remain to be seen what offer is put on the table once he makes his way there, but for now it isn't looking like they are seeing eye-to-eye.

"

Matt Flynn still wants to sign with the Dolphins, but the team is low-balling the offer, thinking he'll take it just to play for Philbin.

Nobody knows what the low-balling offer is, but if the Dolphins and Flynn are on the same page with one another, there is no reason that the two shouldn't be able to find a deal that works.

If the Seahawks offer more money on the table, it would be hard for Flynn to say no, but there is more of a gamble for him to join the Seahawks than the Dolphins.

The team knows they need to find someone to put under center, especially since NFL.com's Jeff Darlington is reporting that the team is no longer in the race for the services of former Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning.

"

Peyton Manning personally contacted Dolphins on Thursday to advise them he wouldn't be signing with Miami, multiple sources have told me.

— Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) March 16, 2012"

With Manning out, there really isn't much of a competition for Flynn to land in Miami. It is all about the two hammering out a deal that could work.

In Miami, he is familiar with head coach Joe Philbin, who had been his offensive coordinator in Green Bay for the last few years. That familiarity will provide Flynn with a lack of adjustment, as well as being able to join a team knowing the system.

That advantage alone will help Flynn get off to a fast start in his first year being the man under center.

The meeting should be getting underway, and perhaps the two will have something they can both agree on before it is too late.
