Cleveland Browns Are Right Not to Pursue Matt Flynn
The Cleveland Browns are right not to pursue Matt Flynn. Their top priority is to provide Colt McCoy with better weapons.
Comparisons between Flynn and McCoy should dimply begin and end with a discussion of the supporting cast each passer has had to work with. That's not intended as an indictment of Flynn's talent.
However, having Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finely to aim for, certainly isn't going to hurt a quarterback's chances of posting eye-popping statistics.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Contrast that with the players around McCoy. Where is the 1,000-yard receiver on the Browns roster, or the dynamic tight end? McCoy didn't even have an elite runner in the backfield during 2011 to share the offensive load.
While the Packers' offensive line is not a dominant unit, there are plenty of softer front fives in the league—namely Cleveland's group. The Browns have lacked marquee players on offense for some time now.
Armed with two first-round selections and still in the early part of free agency, Cleveland's front office must commit to surrounding McCoy with playmakers. Many of the big names at wide receiver have already been taken off the board in free agency.
However, there is still a crop of solid and effective pass-catchers to choose from. Wide receivers like Early Doucet and the Philadelphia Eagles' Steve Smith could thrive in Pat Shurmur's schemes.
A tough and reliable runner like BenJarvus Green-Ellis would be an ideal fit while former Houston Texans right tackle Eric Winston would fix a major weakness along the line. In April's draft, the likes of Trent Richardson and Stephen Hill merit obvious consideration.
McCoy may only have six career wins, yet they have been managed without the assistance of an able supporting cast.
If his competition is a player who has shone in both his career starts while surrounded by All-Pros, then the Browns are wise to stick with McCoy and bank on what he can do if given more weapons.
