Michael Beasley to Lakers Rumors: 3-Way Trade To Land Beasley Perfect for L.A.

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

We've reached the trade deadline day, folks, and the Los Angeles Lakers have yet to pull the trigger.

But I believe today will be the day, especially with a deal that would land them Michael Beasley rumored to be in the works that makes a lot of sense.

The Lakers revisited talks to acquire Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley on Wednesday, multiple league sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com. Several variations of the trade have been discussed. One would land Beasley on the Lakers in a three-team deal that would send Portland Trail Blazers guard Jamal Crawford to the Wolves and Luke Ridnour from Minnesota to Portland. Los Angeles would give up one of its two 2012 first-round draft picks in the deal and use its $8.9 million trade exception, acquired when it traded Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks in December, to absorb Beasley's approximate $6.3 million salary. Portland would also receive the Lakers' first-round pick.

This makes a lot of sense for all teams involved.

If you've been following trade rumors for the past month, it's common knowledge at this point that Minnesota has been shopping Beasley. The Wolves in turn could land a much-needed scoring presence at guard in Crawford and Portland would land a much-needed point guard in Ridnour.

Now, the deal isn't without some question marks. Why would Minnesota move Ridnour after Rubio's injury? Why wouldn't the Lakers try to land Raymond Felton from Portland as well?

This deal has also involved Steve Blake moving to Portland rather than Ridnour, which makes more sense to me, though I still think the Lakers should look to add Felton in that deal.

Nonetheless, it remains a solid trade for the Lakers, who would be getting a player in Beasley who could potentially be extremely productive for them for a trade exception and late first-round draft pick. Beasley has the ability to add an immediate offensive punch and would offer similar versatility to what Lamar Odom provided coming off the bench for the team.

I love Beasley on the Lakers—I think it is a great fit. Here's to hoping we see this before the deadline today.
