Chicago Bears: Taking Off the Offseason
The Chicago Bears have had tough luck in the offseason to this point.
They have lost their second best linebacker in Lance Briggs.
They have cut or failed to re-sign Mushim Muhammad, Fred Miller, and Ruben Brown.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
They are having a hard time re-signing Bernard Berrian, who could possibly take over as the number one receiver; and Brendon Ayanbadejo, who could possibly take over for Lance Briggs at linebacker.
Interestingly, Briggs, Berrian, and Ayanbadejo are all clients of Drew Rosenhaus.
Regarding his three clients, Rosenhaus said, "At this time I would project that those guys would at least get to free agency or at least the beginning of it. But the Bears are going to be in the mix as we continue to talk with other teams. We’re going to have a good, healthy dialogue with [the Bears]."
However, they didn't want to lose their entire roster before the 2008-09 season, they decided to re-sign oft-injured, not-so-oft-talented, Rex "My Play Sure Is" Grossman.
With all these players making a mad dash to free agency, the Bears decided to sign the one piece to the puzzle that just can't seem to go away.
They probably decided that instead of trying to keep the talented players, they should just make the bad players look better.
In the games that Grossman did play this season, he was worse than the other QB that could possibly play instead of him.
His passer rating, touchdowns, yards per completion, and completion percentage, were all worse than Brian Griesse, a player who didn't have significantly more time than Grossman did.
Kyle Orton, although he had almost 150 less attempts, had a higher percentage of passes for touchdowns, and a lower percentage of passes for interceptions, and a higher passer rating.
This means that the starter isn't even the best QB on the team.
And we decided to put even more faith into Not-So-Sexy Rexy.
In fact, they decided that he was even better than those two other possibilities.
"He was motivated to be back and we feel it’s good for both sides. The continuity can’t be minimized in all this, and Rex brings that as well as [being] a very talented player with good game day experience, so we feel with him in the mix this is going to make us better," said Bears GM Jerry Angelo.
The Chicago Bears need to pick the right players to sign, and the right to drop; and right now, they are not doing either.
Say hello to the 2008-09 Miami Dolphins.
