New York Knicks: Who Is Struggling Team's Leader?
Not only is it abundantly clear that the New York Knicks are in trouble, it's also quite apparent that this team has absolutely no leadership on the floor and in the locker room.
There isn't a single player who gets enough respect as well as plays hard enough on the floor to earn such a title.
It certainly isn't Carmelo Anthony, who decided to show up his teammate last night with a public display of frustration by jumping and clapping in anger after he wasn't given the ball in the post upon calling for it.
How about Amar'e Stoudemire? Nope, that isn't correct either. After all, it was Amar'e who stood around and allowed the Chicago Bulls to abuse him on the boards. In all, Chicago got 22 second-chance opportunities to the tune of 13 more than New York.
If anyone has seen the $12 million dollars the Knicks spent this offseason, let me know. Chandler has been a disappointment, no matter what you want to attribute that to, and his irresponsible behavior with officials has resulted in 10 technical fouls this season, good for second in the NBA.
I can't possibly lay this on the shoulders of Jeremy Lin.
No, he isn't the next coming of Michael Jordan as Linsanity might have implied, but he will be good enough for 15 and seven per night. He still needs more time to develop if people want him to be elite, but he's on the right track only 18 starts into his career.
Despite all that, Lin couldn't handle the amount of ego and cry baby that are flying through that locker room right now.
Nobody can.
Coach Mike D'Antoni won't be grabbing the reigns anytime soon. The Knicks coach doesn't like to yell at or reprimand his star players and at this point, can't even be taken seriously by anyone as the head coach of this team.
This lack of leadership is damning for the Knicks and will continue to hurt them in the future. Someone had better take control of this ship without a captain or else the Titanic could be coming to Manhattan.
