NBA Trade Rumors: Josh Smith and Stars Who Won't Be Dealt Before Deadline
With the NBA trade deadline sneaking up ever so quickly, all of the speculation and rumors could turn into nothing at all.
Instead of a flurry of activity on Thursday, we could actually see a very quiet deadline.
Several big-name stars are either being discussed or currently want out of their current situations.
Here's a look at a few of the top names on the trade block that aren't going to end up being moved.
Smith's made it know he wants out of Atlanta, but even though the Celtics (among other teams) have expressed interest, don't expect Smith to be moved.
With one year left on his deal and a team headed to the playoffs, the Hawks may get more for Smith in the offseason than they will in the next few days.
Howard backed himself up against the wall with his little list of teams he would like to sign with. Now, a deal really doesn't seem possible for Magic general manager Otis Smith.
It looks more and more everyday that the Magic will roll the dice and hold onto Howard, hoping they can re-sign him in the offseason.
Smith said the odds on Orlando trading Howard are 50-50, but it's doubtful a good deal comes in during the next four days.
Steve Nash
Those looking for the Phoenix Suns to deal the two-time MVP will end up disappointed.
He's only going to be dealt by the deadline if he demands a trade and he hasn't done so, nor is he likely to do so by Thursday.
Pau Gasol
If anyone can't wait for the deadline to pass, it's Gasol.
He's been dealt, only to see the trade nixed. He's been rumored in everything Mitch Kupchak has going on, even prompting Lakers star Kobe Bryant to come to his defense.
The Rockets and Timberwolves are both still hot after Gasol, but when the dust settles, Gasol will be in a Lakers uniform on March 16.
Boston's Big 4
With Danny Ainge fielding calls for Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo, it's very unlikely any of them is dealt by Thursday's deadline.
Allen and Garnett are more valuable to the team allowing their contracts to expire.
Pierce's contract makes him tough to deal.
Rondo should attract the most interest, but it's unlikely someone ponies up a good enough offer in order for Ainge to pull the trigger.
The Lakers have been after Rondo in the past few days but are unwilling to part with Gasol, making a deal for the All-Star point guard very unlikely.
