Tim Tebow Trade Rumors: Jaguars Would Be Ideal Home If QB Is Traded

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a position to come away from the Peyton Manning sweepstakes as big winners.

That is not because they are going to land Manning, but because of what they will be in a position to pick up when Manning makes his decision.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk sheds some light on this:

"Per a source with knowledge of the dynamics in Denver, if the Broncos land Manning, Tebow most likely will be gone.

He wouldn’t be cut.  He’d be traded.  And while the number of potentially interested teams isn’t known, the next yard sale at Shad Khan’s house may include some oversized tarps.

Yes, we’re told that the Jaguars are in the mix to acquire Tebow via trade."

Florio doesn't go to much trouble to detail his source of information for the Tebow to Jacksonville rumor, but it is believable because it makes sense.

Tebow would add instant excitement to a franchise that could use a jolt. He would be returning to the state of Florida, where he was an icon long before "Tebowing" became a buzzword.

He would bring some buzz to the team. The Jaguars offense has disintegrated into a boring unit that relies almost solely on Maurice Jones-Drew.

Last season MJD accounted for 41 percent of the team's touchdowns and 36 percent of the team's yards. That is a staggering amount for any one player. And it is far less than ideal. The Jaguars finished 28th in points and 32nd in yards.

Tebow would breath some instant life and intensity into that offense. And here is the best part of all: the Jaguars are one of the few teams that Tebow could go to where he doesn't have a negative impact on the passing game. The Jaguars finished 32nd in the NFL in passing yards last season.

Rookie QB Blaine Gabbert looked so lost and ineffective that it is hard to find any reason to hope that he can develop into a decent NFL QB. He threw for just 2218 yards by completing only 50.8 percent of his passes. He also threw 11 interceptions to 12 touchdowns.

Tebow's completion percentage was lower at 46.5, but his touchdown to interception ration was far better at 12 TDs to six picks.

At least with Tebow, the Jaguars would have the threat of the QB run to go with their non-existent passing attack. This would help open up the run for MJD, and it would bring a level of excitement and buzz that only Tebow can bring.
