Lakers Rumors: L.A.'s Struggles Would Continue with PG Ramon Sessions
The Los Angeles Lakers will continue to struggle regardless of whether they acquire Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Ramon Sessions before the March 15 trade deadline.
According to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal, the Cavs "could deal Ramon Sessions outright for a pick to a team like the Los Angeles Lakers."
There has been talk for the last few weeks of the Lakers making a change at point guard, especially considering that Derek Fisher, who has started all 41 games for L.A. this season, is 37 years old and performing like it.
Fisher is shooting just 38 percent from the field and averaging only 3.4 assists per game. His inability to create for the rest of the Lakers' lineup or even pose a threat has them looking more beatable than ever before.
The lack of creativity from L.A.'s offense has resulted in Kobe Bryant averaging the most points since the 2006-07 season and taking the most shots since 2005-06. That style of play won't stop simply because the Lakers shell out a draft pick for a backup point guard.
""The Lakers are desperate for a guard who can penetrate and break down a defense. Sessions is terrific at doing that, but he’s at best a marginal starting point guard in the NBA." - Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal
"
Sessions is averaging just 5.1 assists per game (0.2 more than Bryant) in 24.6 minutes of play per night with the Cavs this season. Not to mention he is only shooting 39.8 percent from the field this year.
Although at 25 years old he would be an upgrade over Fisher, the acquisition of Sessions this March would not help the Lakers rise in the Western Conference standings.
