2012 NFL Mock Draft: Final Selections Before Free Agency Starts

David LevinMar 11, 2012

There are some things that cannot be controlled in the NFL this time of year. One of them is owners who have to make a "splash" and upset the ebb and flow of how things "should" go in terms of the NFL draft. If it wasn't Daniel Snyder, it would have been someone else who upset the apple cart and made the other 31 owners cringe.

Leave it to an NFC owner to do that.

Snyder has basically put a "dent" in how the selection process was supposed to go. And while trading up did change a few game plans, it may not have disrupted everything for every team.

But based on what has happened in the last 24 hours and what will happen in free agency on Tuesday, here is a look at the first 32 selections in the draft.

1. Indianapolis Colts - Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford: OK, Peyton is gone. This is now Luck's team. The Colts are rebuilding. Let's see if he can stand the pressure.

2. Washington Redskins - Robert Griffin, III, QB, Baylor: Now that Daniel Snyder has the quarterback he wants and it appears he will have the receiver he wants (Vincent Jackson), this becomes Mike Shanahan's project to succeed or screw up.

3. Minnesota Vikings - Matt Kali, OT, Southern Cal: The next great Trojans tackle in the NFL. The Vikings are praying he is like Tony Boselli or Roy Foster.

4. Cleveland Browns - Morris Claiborne, DB, LSU: The team most affected by the Washington trade. They still land the best defensive back in the draft and now have a set of cornerbacks in Claiborne and Joe Haden to build around.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama: I think this may be the next place for a trade. Running back is something this team can get later in the round. Defensive players and receivers may be at a premium.

6. St. Louis Rams - Michael Brockers, DT, LSU: I am not a huge fan of this pick, mainly because I think Dontari Poe is better. Defensive-minded coach Jeff Fisher gets a stud to build around.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars - Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State: I would be more thrilled if he were 6'2" instead of 6'0". Still the best receiver on the board goes to a team that needs help all over the offense.

8. Miami Dolphins - Riley Reiff, T, Iowa: Choosing between Reiff and Stanford's Jonathan Martin is like flipping a coin. Reiff appears to be more fluid in his movement. He will be a right tackle to team with Jake Long.

9. Carolina Panthers - Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis: The fastest rising player on the board. He will be a favorite of Ron Rivera and help rebuild the defense in Charlotte.

10. Buffalo Bills - Courtney Upshaw, DE, Alabama: He will help define the new type of edge rusher in the NFL. The Bills need help on both lines. Upshaw is too good to pass up.

11. Kansas City Chiefs - Jonathan Martin, T, Stanford: Great pass-blocking skills and footwork. Helps a major need on this team that has a pretty good running game.

12. Seattle Seahawks - Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M: Tannehill is a need pick by this team. It does not mean he is the 11th-best prospect in this draft, but the Seahawks are a quarterback away from being a playoff team.

13. Arizona Cardinals - Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina: He can play on the line or standing up. Gives the Cardinals plenty of versatility.

14. Dallas Cowboys - Dre Kirkpatrick, DB, Alabama: The choice between Kirkpatrick and Janoris Jenkins is slight. The Cowboys go for the one who played in the SEC last season.

15. Philadelphia Eagles - Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College: Hopefully, this team gets it all together and makes the playoffs this year. Kuechly adds to Philly's talent pool.

16. New York Jets - Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State: The Jets need an infusion of youth on the defense. Cox does that for them. They may also look at Alshon Jeffery as well.

17. Cincinnati Bengals - Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor: A nice compliment to A.J. Green and another weapon for Andy Dalton to sling the ball to.

18. San Diego Chargers - David DeCastro, G, Stanford: Thought they would take a receiver, but DeCastro is way too good to pass up. They can snare a receiver in the second round.

19. Chicago Bears - Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina: A big and tall receiver the Bears have been hoping for. If Jay Cutler comes back at full speed, the Bears may finally have a passing offense.

20. Tennessee Titans - Mark Barron, DB, Alabama: Michael Griffin and Cortland Finnegan leave, this is a huge hole to fill. Barron can help strengthen the back line.

21. Cincinnati Bengals - Janoris Jenkins, DB, North Alabama: If he is as good as he was at Florida, the Bengals got a steal this late in the game.

22. Cleveland Browns - Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame: He is 6'3" and 225 pounds and instantly is better than any receiver on the Browns roster. Now, the team needs to find a passer.

23. Detroit Lions - Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia: He could be the team's next Jeff Backus. He is huge at 6'5" and 347 pounds and can run block and possibly play center.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers - Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State: The Steelers always find gems this late in the draft. This season is no different.

25. Denver Broncos - Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina: The Broncos need more help on offense and maybe a Stephen Hill makes sense, but Coples is too good to pass up.

26. Houston Texans - Stephen Hill, Receiver, WR, Georgia Tech: Hill is shooting up the draft charts. He will be a nice addition to the receiving corps of the upstart Texans.

27. New England Patriots - Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois: Just like I have said before, some teams just fall into luck. Mercilus is the pass rusher this team needs.

28. Green Bay Packers - Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin: The team needs youth on the line and stability. Konz can play center and guard.

29. Baltimore Ravens - Mike Adams, T, Ohio State: Just another solid pick that helps this team with its offense. May opt for Devon Still if he is available.

30. San Francisco 49ers - Reuben Randle, WR, LSU: He will help spread the secondary and ease double-coverages on Michael Crabtree.

31. New England Patriots - Devon Still, DT, Penn State: You may actually see Bill Belichick smile with Mercilus and now Still to help rebuild the defense.

32. New York Giants - Nick Perry, DE, Southern Cal: He needs to add weight and grow into his body, but Perry is a super-fast rusher who could be a sack artist with Jason Pierre-Paul.
