Lakers Rumors: Kyle Lowry and Luis Scola Is Best Deal LA Will Find for Pau Gasol
The Lakers have dragged these trade options out for a while, but the Rockets' offer is the best they will receive. Chris Broussard reported this of a possible deal between the Lakers and Rockets:
"Houston still wants Gasol, and a package of Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry could perhaps get it done.
"
This reports does indicate that the Rockets were slow to offer Lowry, but more recently, Broussard reports in this video, that the Rockets have indeed offered their point guard.
This deal addresses the need for a point guard better than rumored deals for Ramon Sessions, Atlanta's Kirk Hinrich or Portland's Raymond Felton.
Lowry is just a tad older than Sessions (two weeks to be exact), but for his career he's been a much better three-point shooter. Sessions is having a solid year from deep, shooting 43 percent on only 59 attempts.
Lowry is shooting 38 percent on 182 attempts. It's more volume with almost equal accuracy. Sessions' success from deep could be short lived, considering lifetime he's a 29 percent three-point shooter.
Long distance accuracy is a huge component for a Lakers PG. He figures to get a ton of looks from deep, and knocking them down is huge for L.A.'s offense.
Lowry is much younger, 25, than Hinrich who is 31 and coming off injuries this year. Plus, he is struggling as well. Since he came back from injury, he is averaging five points per game and shooting 35 percent from the field.
While his defense and three-point shooting fit theoretically, the Lakers have to look at how he's been playing. This season, it hasn't been too promising.
Felton is also struggling and out of shape. He recently benched himself to try and find a spark, but it hasn't helped. He is shooting only 39 percent from the field and the Lakers need more than that.
Lowry is the best option at PG with Sessions next, Hinrich third and Felton last.
Scola is a bonus because it allows the Lakers to find their point guard while softening the blow of losing Gasol. Scola is tough, defensive minded and a decent rebounder.
This season he is averaging 15 points and 6.5 rebounds. It doesn't completely replace Gasol's 16 and 10, but his style may mesh well with Andrew Bynum.
He is adept at making the 15-footer and he is also a good passer. It could create a more natural high-low offense.
This Lakers must make this deal, as no other realistic possibility stands to help the team more.
