NBA Trade Rumors: Celtics Are Better off Moving Ray Allen Instead of Rajon Rondo
As the NBA trade deadline looms, the Boston Celtics would find it more beneficial to their team if they dealt Ray Allen as opposed to Rajon Rondo.
While the talented point guard might get them more in return, he is much more valuable to the team, which is why they need to hold on to him.
Rondo has had two triple-doubles in his last three games, proving that he is vital to the team's success and trading him would be extremely detrimental to the team.
After scoring 18 points, grabbing 17 rebounds and dishing out 20 assists, Rondo said in a television interview via the New York Times that all these rumors are helping him.
"I think I’ve been playing better since the trade rumors, so keep them going.
"
In Rondo's last 10 games, he's averaging 17 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds, which are all higher than his season average right now.
He's stepping up for his team, showing that if they traded him they would be in big trouble.
There's no doubt the Celtics need to make a move to improve the team. If they want to win the championship they have to get better, but dealing Rondo is not the answer.
He is entirely too important to this team, so Boston must keep him.
As reported by Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated, sources say that Allen is the one generating more trade buzz.
"Some league executives have shooting guard and free-agent-to-be Ray Allen pegged as the most likely to be moved. Sources say the Clippers are interested.
"
It's tough to know what is true with so many rumors swirling around, but if that is indeed the case, the Celtics need to jump all over that.
Of course, the price for Allen will also be high, as he is still a very talented player that can still perform at a high level.
Since his contract is up at the end of the year, it makes him even more enticing trade bait. It's not going to be easy to deal him because of his age and his price tag, but it's something the Celtics should do if they're serious about improving the team.
Currently, the Celtics are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. They should maintain one of the top eight sports in the conference, but once they reach the postseason, winning it all will be very difficult with the roster they have right now.
Allen may be 36 years old, but he can still shoot with the best of them. Moving him instead of Rondo would be much more beneficial to the team. Not only would the Celtics be keeping their best player in Rondo, they'd still be getting great talent in return for Allen.
The March 15 trade deadline is quickly approaching, and if Boston is smart, it will make sure it doesn't let go of Rondo anytime soon. If a trade is going to happen, it has to be Allen over Rondo.
