Boston Celtics Trade Rumors: C's Reportedly Making Push to Deal Rajon Rondo
Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo has been the subject of numerous trade rumors in recent months, and the latest word around the campfire suggests these rumors aren't about to go away any time soon.
According to ESPN's Chris Broussard, the Celtics are "aggressively shopping" Rondo. He's apparently having too many disagreements with head coach Doc Rivers, and the Celtics find his personality to be "too high-maintenance."
Moreover, Broussard reports that the Celtics know full well that they're no longer title contenders. The Big Three era swiftly approaching its inevitable end, and the Celtics have no interest in building around Rondo once it's over.
Despite his personality and his rocky relationship with Rivers, Rondo's production on the court this season makes this a good time for the Celtics to deal him. He's currently second in the league with 9.6 APG and is averaging a career-best 14.1 PPG.
Broussard mentions the Golden State Warriors as a possible trading partner for the Celtics. The two teams had a Rondo-for-Stephen Curry swap on the table before the start of the season, which was ultimately nixed by the Warriors. That trade is still be discussed, according to Broussard, but it isn't clear if either team is still open to making it happen.
The Warriors are also interested in Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, according to Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com.
The NBA's trade deadline is March 15th, giving the Celtics a little over two weeks to figure out a deal for Rondo. If they do trade him, the Celtics will finish the season without the point guard who helped lead them to two NBA Finals appearances and one championship in 2008.
Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, two members of the Big Three, are due to become unrestricted free agents at the end of the season.
