Enigmatic Debate: WrestleMania, Brandon Jacobs/IMPACT Wrestling, Kofi Kingston
Welcome to another edition of the Enigmatic Debate. If you are unfamiliar with the ED, here’s my explanation as to what this is and why we do it.
“The Enigmatic Debate revolves around any and every topic related to pro wrestling.
Ultimately, the goal of the series is to spark debates.
As writers, we’re here to challenge the thinking of readers by presenting topics too difficult to warrant simple answers. We’ll also include weekly thoughts on the programming and pay-per-views.”
Feel free to drop a comment when you finish up reading this article.
This week’s panel features E-Rage, Jacob Stachowiak, SiD and myself, Charlie Groenewegen.
May the debate begin!
Any Thoughts About MetLife Stadium Hosting WrestleMania in 2013?
1 of 16Charlie: I think New Jersey is a pretty cool place to host WrestleMania. I feel like every year WrestleMania is hosted in someplace like Florida or Texas.
Since WrestleMania 24, Florida has been home to WrestleMania twice (WrestleMania 24 and 28) and Texas has held WrestleMania once (25).
I think it’s cool to bring WrestleMania to MetLife Stadium mainly because I live in New York! For the first time in eight years, I may have a legit chance of going to WrestleMania!
E-Rage: I like the idea that New Jersey will host WrestleMania since it can bring in money.
The WWE gets some media exposure for using a famous, new stadium which was just completed recently. My only concern is the fact that they chose a stadium without a dome in a notoriously cold area.
WrestleMania takes place in late March or early April, at which it is still cold out for the fans and the wrestlers. Since the stadium doesn’t have a dome, rain and snow could affect the show greatly.
Jacob: As long as there’s no ‘Shore’ interference, the event will be fine.
SiD: My thoughts on WrestleMania 29 being in New Jersey?
I’m certainly not happy. MetLife Stadium is a big one, and it can support huge crowds, but what I was hoping for is a WrestleMania in Toronto.
A WrestleMania in Toronto would have been epic. The Toronto crowds are good, and so is the overall stadium. Nothing against New Jersey, but personally, I would’ve preferred Toronto.
How Will Santino Marella's Push End?
2 of 16Charlie: Santino Marella qualified for the SmackDown Elimination Chamber after winning a battle royal in the main event of SmackDown a few weeks ago.
Everyone expected Santino to get attacked and taken out before the match, but no. In the Elimination Chamber, Santino eliminated two future world champions in Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes. Santino was the last man standing between Daniel Bryan and the World Heavyweight Championship.
Even in defeat, Santino put on one of the most impressive performances of the night. He definitely was the most popular superstar at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
The following Raw, he was defeated in a squash match by Daniel Bryan but he did land a main event spot. A main event battle royal once again, this time, with the winner getting a WWE title shot at WrestleMania. And again, Santino eliminated two future world champions and was one of the final four in the match.
I’m not sure how Santino’s push will end, but I’m hoping he can win the Intercontinental Championship once again.
E-Rage: Santino Marella will definitely not become world heavyweight champion, I’ll tell you that. I don’t even see him facing Bryan one on one.
Santino is beloved by the fans, but I don’t see him drawing fans that much. At most, I see him becoming Intercontinental champion again. Rhodes has been beaten by Santino various times and his talent makes him a legitimate threat.
After Rhodes finishes his program with the Big Show, then he can feud with Santino.
Jacob: I believe the endgame for Marella’s push will be a run with a midcard title. It’s not very bold to assume Marella can take the United States Championship away from Jack Swagger. However, I’m predicting Marella will be the man to dethrone Cody Rhodes and become the Intercontinental champion.
Marella will face off against Rhodes in a match where everyone thinks Santino has no shot of winning. He proves them wrong with a rollup victory over Cody. Santino runs away with the title and Cody moves onto bigger and better things. Santino has a decent transitional reign as champ and then goes back to jobber obscurity/comic relief role.
SiD: First of all, I’m very happy that Santino Marella is getting a push. That man has paid his dues, and certainly deserves to have at least one world title. If Great Khali had it, anyone can.
Santino got a push with a huge win by eliminating many superstars to win a battle royal to enter the Elimination Chamber. He was the second to last entrant in that match, but was eliminated by the world champ, Daniel Bryan.
Santino is extremely over, and he deserves this push.
As for his push ending, it would go this way:
Santino gets an Intercontinental title reign after Cody Rhodes goes to contend for the world title. Santino drops it after a month to any random wrestler looking for a push. This is the most logical since the push cannot stop now, because the people love the Cobra.
Thoughts on the Pairing of Kofi and Truth? Should Kofi Get a Main Event Push?
3 of 16Charlie: I don’t like the pairing of R-Truth and Kofi Kingston at all. Both guys could be doing better things in this WrestleMania season, but WWE is putting them in an already deceased tag team division.
Either guy would be a good opponent for United States champion Jack Swagger. Last I checked, the US champ isn’t doing anything special.
When it comes to Kofi and a main event spot, I’d say yes. No main event push right now, but eventually.
The WWE was building Kofi into a credible threat the same way they were building John Morrison into a credible threat last year. If WWE had continued to push Kofi this way, I could see him becoming WWE champion sooner rather than later.
But now, placing him in this dead-end tag team, definitely hurts his chances. Kofi has done it all in the midcard. He’s been there and done that a few months ago with Evan Bourne as Air Boom. It’s about time WWE really tests Kofi by giving him a main-event caliber feud.
E-Rage: R-Boom seems like a pretty good tag team so far. Both men are great talents and have some chemistry as it seems. My only concern is what kind of gimmick they will have if there is one. Will R-Truth still be the crazy, lovable lunatic and Kofi the high-flying, yet silent cruiserweight? Kofi should receive a main event push for simple reasons. The man is extremely beloved by the fans as evidenced by the huge pop he receives.
During the Elimination Chamber debate, Kofi demonstrated some of his mic skills with him appearing more serious to the fans. I wouldn’t go so far to say make him WWE champ anytime soon, but at least keep him as an upper-midcarder.
Jacob: Honestly, I hate this pairing. I hate that two legit singles stars are being forced to team together when they obviously have next to no charisma with each other.
About Kofi’s push, I honestly think it’ll never happen.
WWE will definitely tease us with it but I don’t think they’ll ever let Kofi fans have it. Whether you chalk it up to the color of his skin, subpar promo skills or vapid gimmick; WWE is just not behind Kingston at all. Which is a damn shame considering his in-ring ability and his character potential.
SiD: In my opinion, Kofi is very talented. It’s another thing that I don’t like him, but I find him entertaining. He is extremely underrated on the mic, too.
A pairing with R-Truth could depend, since right now, there’s nothing going on for the two of them in singles competition. So, a tag team run will be great. They could be having a tag team match for WrestleMania, vs. the Colons. It’ll be obvious that it will be a dark match, though.
Whether Kofi deserves a WWE Championship run? In all fairness, no.
Kofi Kingston will never be world champion, according to me. Not because I don’t want him to, but just because he doesn’t have the look and the walk of the world champ. Kofi looks like a midcard title holder at best. I don’t want to piss off any Kofi fans, but this is just how I feel.
With Four Big Matches Already Announced, Which Match Do You Want to See Most?
4 of 16Charlie: The match I am most looking forward to at WrestleMania is The Rock vs. John Cena. Let me break it down.
Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan has already happened at WrestleMania. Just last year, in fact. It was the WrestleMania dark match for the United States Championship and I don’t recall it ever really ending.
Now, these two get a chance to work a match that’ll be seen by millions and will be for the World Heavyweight Championship rather than the United States Championship like it was last year. So, this is just a WrestleMania rematch with higher stakes. However, this match does draw second for me so far.
Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk. I’m really not interested in this match. It’s a battle of the two, “best in the world” for the WWE title! Okay…
I’m not a big fan of either guy and, honestly, I don’t care who leaves WrestleMania as WWE champion.
Triple H vs. The Undertaker for a third time? Yup.
It being the third time these two will face off at WrestleMania doesn’t get me so excited. I want to see Undertaker get a fresh, new challenger to his streak.
The Rock vs. John Cena, though…that is big.
The Rock has returned to the WWE after a seven-year absence and is now taking on the face of the PG Era and the poster-boy of the WWE, John Cena. Generations collide.
This match is a year in the making and I can’t wait to see Team Bring It vs. the CeNation.
E-Rage: This question is a tough one to answer, I’ll admit. For me, Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk is my favorite to watch. Both men are phenomenal on the mic as we, the fans, all know. Jericho is best when he is a heel with his condescending tone and arrogant attitude. Punk is just a viper on the mic, adept at insulting his opponent while simultaneously getting the crowd behind him.
In terms of in-ring ability, there is no question that both men are great at their craft. Punk plays the technician well while Jericho is the capable high-flyer/technician.
Jacob: I’m looking forward to Cena vs. Rock the most.
1.) Cena is going to win, so that’s a plus.
2.) Cena is going to get some massive heat from the crowd.
3.) Cena is going to outwrestle The Rock.
Those are three awesome things that I’m looking forward to seeing in that match. That’s all I can really ask for.
SiD: This week was an eventful one in WWE. Not only was there fallout from Elimination Chamber, but also, the three matches you mentioned were announced.
I’m happy with all these matches, and I’m starting to think that WWE wants to put everything on the line at this WrestleMania. They’re doing a great job making these matches. The card is predictable, but as they say, predictable is not always bad.
The match I’m looking forward to the most will definitely be the Rock vs Cena. No doubt about it. After all, it’s the collision of two eras.
I, personally as a fan, want Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to win. Because, let’s face it, if he doesn’t win, the Internet is going to explode, and so is Miami. If Cena is not turning heel, there’s no point of Cena winning.
Anyway, whatever the case might be, I’m looking forward to seeing the Rock vs. Cena. Looking by the amount of publicity this match has got, I’m definitely going on record and saying that it will be one of the better matches we’ve seen.
What Is One Match You Want to See Announced for WrestleMania?
5 of 16Charlie: One match I want to see announced for WrestleMania is the Money in the Bank, no doubt.
The WWE has decided to discontinue the Money in the Bank pay-per-view and, rumor is, the MITB concept is going to return to WrestleMania this year!
I’m really hoping it does return because, when has a Money in the Bank match upset? When has it been boring? Money in the Bank is a great concept and should return to its home at WrestleMania.
Also, all the midcard guys that don’t look like they have anything going for them right now can get in on this match. All the guys that need that extra thing to break through the glass ceiling. This is it.
My ideal Money in the Bank for WrestleMania this year would include the following superstars: Christian, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, Santino Marella, “Funkasaurus” Brodus Clay and R-Truth
(That’s if Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show is booked. If not, swap Truth for Rhodes.)
E-Rage: Money in the Bank needs to return to WrestleMania again.
Last year’s WrestleMania seemed to be lacking some power with the elimination of the Money in the Bank match. Money in the Bank would be better with only one briefcase as opposed to two briefcases from the Money in the Bank pay-per view.
In terms of fan excitement, Money in the Bank has always entertained fans if it is made up of capable high-flyers.
Jacob: What I want? Are you sure you want to know what I want?
Okay, I want Justin Gabriel vs. Heath Slater at WrestleMania.
What? There’s nothing wrong with that. Fine, I’ll choose a more realistic match.
Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show at WrestleMania for the Intercontinental Championship. Honestly, I don’t care to see this match. All I want to see is Rhodes and the IC belt going over.
SiD: This is going to be very precise, but I want to see Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust at WrestleMania, with the title vs. career stipulation.
The Rhodes family has been one of the most talented wrestling families of this generation, and they should get the spotlight. Cody Rhodes is a budding main event talent in the making, while Dustin is a legend, if you like it or not.
Thus, this match seems to be the most likely and could really be a money match come WrestleMania. Other matches I could see happening are Shaq vs. Show, but as of now, I definitely want to see this showdown.
Who Do You Want as General Manager of Both, SmackDown and Raw?
6 of 16Charlie: I think this is an easy question; John Laurinaitis.
Teddy Long is too boring and predictable. “Mr. Excitement” Johnny Ace, on the other hand, is fairly new to being a GM and is quite the entertainer.
Teddy Long has run his course as a general manager. He’s old, he’s boring, he’s stale and he’s predictable. Also, if Teddy is no longer SmackDown GM, this weird angle between him and Aksana may finally end.
E-Rage: For both shows, I would much rather see John Laurinaitis as the general manager.
Johnny Ace came off at first as a bland character receiving X-Pac heat. Now, he has molded into his own goofy character which seems to be a parody of himself. Though he is a heel most of the time, Laurinaitis has made some choices which have been face in a sense such as restarting the Punk vs. Bryan match recently on SmackDown.
Let’s be honest, Teddy Long has become stale in his tenure as SmackDown general manager. Nowadays he seems to be relegated to: Coming out, making a tag-team match, saying “playa” and “holla” and going back to Aksana.
Jacob: I’m going to have to go with John Laurinaitis. He’s Mr. Excitement. He’s charismatic and captivating when he’s on screen. Not only that but he’s unpredictable and extravagantly eccentric. His presence needs to be admired on both Raw and SmackDown.
I’m lying of course but I really don’t want to see Teddy Long on TV anymore. That’s why I’m going with the Funk Man.
SiD: Without a doubt, in my opinion, the general manager of both shows should be the executive vice president of talent relations and the interim general manager of Monday Night Raw, Mr. John Laurinaitis.
Why?
Because he’s been much more entertaining that Teddy “Arrive. Make Tag Team Match. Leave.” Long. He’s been far more superior, and can be sen as a GM who has control over things, unlike Long who can let Big Show destroy his office and not do a thing about it.
Teddy Long has become incredibly stale as of late. His dancing act is now over. Aksana and him having a relationship is the weirdest storyline we’ve witnessed in a while. Teddy Long is a former shell of what he used to be, and to cut a long story short, his time is over.
Has the HIAC Affected Your Mood for HHH/Undertaker? Anything You Want Added?
7 of 16Charlie: The Hell in a Cell stipulation definitely added something more interesting to this match. It made this match much more appealing, but, also added more margin for error.
Neither guy, HHH or Undertaker, has worked a match in a long time. The Hell in a Cell definitely increases the chance of injury, which both guys are no stranger to. These guys are nearing the end of their careers and this can be even better with one more tweak to the match.
Undertaker retired HHH’s best friend, Shawn Michaels. HHH thinks he’s better than Shawn.
Prove it.
Have HHH put his (in-ring) career on the line just like HBK. If Triple H is so confident, have him put his career on the line.
Triple H’s career vs. third time charm
E-Rage: I loved the last Triple H vs. Undertaker bout, but I was hesitant at them doing another.
The way this feud has progressed, though, has gotten me extremely interested. With that said, the Hell in a Cell aspect will make the match so much better in my opinion.
Last year’s no DQ stipulation made that match better with the two going all out by using chair shots to the head and even destroying the “Cole Mine.”
Hell in a Cell is a match which Taker and Triple H both helped elevate to the status it is today. I would like to see blood added to the match with either, or both, men bleeding. The blood will make the match seem much more powerful, giving viewers the impression that both men are leaving everything they have in the ring.
Jacob: Blood.
It’s as simple as that. These two men need to have the freedom to tell a story to its fullest potential.
I believe blading is a key instrument in doing so. Yes, it is grotesque and WWE is PG now. However without it, the match will feel incomplete and not as dramatic as it could be. Not to mention that without blood, the Hell in a Cell gimmick match will be devalued even further.
Make it happen, WWE. Let these two men do what it takes to put on a story telling spectacle.
SiD: Hell in a Cell is a great concept, but it is being overused here. To be really honest, this just proves that Undertaker will win once again, and HHH has no chance of ending the streak. The Hell in a Cell is a good way to have a brawl, and not a technical match. But adding this stipulation just minimized Triple H’s chances.
Look at it this way, Triple H will dominate, he’ll try to go for a big spot on the Cell, but it will get reversed into a tombstone or Hell’s Gate and HHH will lose. Simply put, HHH cannot win this match. It’s good in a way, since I don’t want the streak to end.
I want this to be a good match, which is probably an over-the-top expectation since they both are above 40. But Hell in a Cell stipulation is good and bad. Good, because it could give us many legendary spots, and bad because the winner will already be known.
Do You Have Any Interest in Shaquille O'Neal at WrestleMania?
8 of 16Charlie: Quick answer; no interest at all.
WrestleMania is known to bring in some big-time celebrities outside of pro wrestling. Examples are Mickey Rourke, Floyd Mayweather and Snooki. Now they want Shaq?
Why?
Shaq has faced off against Big Show in the past, but it looks like WWE is aiming towards a Rhodes/Show match for April 1. Shaq just doesn’t fit into the card, plain and simple.
Besides, a Hollywood actor is already booked. His name is Dwayne Johnson and he’s going up against the face of the WWE; John Cena.
E-Rage: Seeing Shaq in the ring would be pretty cool to see in my opinion. Unlike other celebrities, Shaq is athletic and could make a decent match with the Big Show. I am not expecting this match to be a technical masterpiece though.Shaq is no Bret Hart or Chris Benoit and he may be sloppy at times. Keep the match short and sweet with some big spots such as trading blows or massive clotheslines.
Jacob: I’m not interested in the least bit.
Not at all.
SiD: No, just no. WrestleMania, will surely, sell out because of the Rock and the Cena matchup. And face it, Shaq is not the best wrestler in the world. Nor does Shaq have the athletic ability of Jersey Shore’s Snooki. Basically, the Shaq vs. anybody, most probably Big Show, will not be a good one.
It will be filled with punches and clotheslines. If Shaq is even there at WrestleMania, it will not be a good attraction or something. The fans will consider that as a filler since everyone will be waiting for Rock vs. Cena.
On a side note, if Big Show loses to Shaq, I wouldn’t call Big Show “dominant,” ever.
How'd You Like Brandon Jacobs in TNA? Do You Want Him as a Full-Time Wrestler?
9 of 16FOX Sports reports that Dixie Carter and Jacobs have had discussions about a post-football wrestling career.
Charlie: From WWE to TNA. From basketball to football.
I liked Brandon Jacobs in TNA. His appearances were great. They were entertaining (that’s what I care most about) and got some media exposure.
To answer the second part, yes. I would like to see Brandon Jacobs as a full-time wrestler.
The last football player turned full-time TNA wrestler was Monty Brown. We all know how damn successful Monty Brown was in TNA.
Monty Brown and Brandon Jacobs are two entirely different people. Monty Brown had all the tools. In-ring work being most important, for obvious reasons.
If Brandon Jacobs can work out some wrestling moves and maybe gets some training in OVW, I think he could be pretty good. He had some pretty good mic skills and plenty of intensity as seen on IMPACT.
Brandon Jacobs better hurry up with the Giants because I wouldn’t mind seeing him make a full-time return to IMPACT Wrestling.
E-Rage: Brandon Jacobs actually did better in his appearances than I thought he would. On the mic, Jacobs could use some work though. I just couldn’t get into his statements and he seemed to be a bit uncomfortable. His first appearance was just for him to appear on TV and to start a mini-feud so it wasn’t too bad. His second appearance impressed me to the point that I can say it would be interesting to see him as a professional wrestler.
The chokeslam he executed on Bully Ray was actually pretty well done for a rookie in a sense. With some training, Jacobs could be a pretty decent big man in TNA. He may need a manager as a mouthpiece, but as far as a big man, he could do pretty well.
Jacob: I didn’t really enjoy Jacobs’ appearances on IMPACT as of late. However, that’s not saying I hated it or thought it was a bad idea. Jacobs is a star that could very well bring in viewers to IMPACT.
He’s not exactly Shaquille O’Neil but he has an underrated popularity. TNA ended up getting some nice publicity from it.
I still didn’t enjoy his appearance, solely due to the instant burial Bully Ray’s persona had to take. Ray will survive through this and these guest appearances will be looked back as a decent move by TNA in retrospect.
Moving on to whether or not Jacobs could ever be a full-time wrestler, I think it could very well happen.
For one, he has the desire to become a professional wrestler. Secondly, he’s already 29 years old, meaning he’s reaching that age where NFL running backs start to tire out and become ineffective. A career as a professional wrestler can keep Jacobs employed and relevant for as long as he wants.
Now if only TNA could find him the right trainer. If only they could get Monty Brown to do it.
SiD: I’m liking Jacobs’ appearances right now. That could be because of…
A.) He’s feuding with Bully Ray or
B.) Storm is on his side;
Whatever the option may be, he’s doing a good job, no doubt. Some people may be calling him a “waste of space,” but I’m enjoying his stint at IMPACT Wrestling.
Now, with that said, Jacobs being a full-time TNA Wrestler? Hell no.
Jacobs could/would be the next Hulk Hogan, who would promote himself rather than the business. I, along with many others, don’t want to see this happen since it is evident that Jacobs does not belong in a wrestling ring.
Should Crimson and Morgan Split? Thoughts on a Crimson Heel Turn?
10 of 16Charlie: This Crimson heel turn is exactly what he needs. At TNA’s biggest show, Bound For Glory, Crimson was booed. The fans cheered more for his heel opponent, Samoa Joe.
Crimson’s undefeated streak became irrelevant when he joined the ranks as a tag team. This heel turn could definitely spice things up again. Make Crimson a dominant force like he was upon his debut.
I feel like the timing of this is perfect, just in time for Lockdown, but the tag division isn’t. The tag team division is incredibly weak. Beer Money split and the Guns are out due to an injured Chris Sabin.
Unless TNA finds a new babyface team to replace Crimson and Morgan, I’m not sure the split is good for the tag division. Crimson and Morgan are the only challengers for Magnus and Joe. With them gone, the champs will just sit around begging for the Guns to return.
This will greatly benefit Crimson, but at the same time, hurt the tag division a little but more.
E-Rage: Crimson seems to be the better of the two in turning heel. Morgan has better mic skills to me and seems to be well-liked by the fans. Crimson on the other hand, is decent in the ring, so he could be used as a monster heel against Morgan or anybody else. I would not like to see Morgan and Crimson break up so soon though. Along with Magnus/Samoa Joe, they seem to be the only legitimate tag teams in TNA at the moment. Without Crimson and Morgan, I don’t see any competition for Magnus and Joe. Keep them together for a while and then break them up after the second or third title attempt.
Jacob: Yes and Yes.
Crimson, who already has decent heat with smarky fans, will definitely work as a heel character. Concurrently, if Joe and Magnus worked so well together, I believe TNA could find magic in another random pairing until MCMG comes back to save the division.
While Morgan and Crimson feud, the tag champs can have a transitional feud with a pairing like Doug Williams and Mark Haskins.
SiD: Man, these questions are awesome.
Anyway, to be honest, I’m loving Magnus’ work these days. Magnus is just plain fantastic, and so is the “Samoan Submission Machine,” Samoa Joe.
I’ll admit, I’m not that high on Morgan or Crimson, but they’re doing a fine job as a tag team. I hate the fact that Crimson has the undefeated streak, though.
A heel Crimson? It could be great, but it depends on how he is booked. I’d say that it will be a good move, since both of them need to be singles wrestlers and Crimson may show some personality as a heel. Matt Morgan could win his first world title, and Crimson could feud with him, I suppose.
Any Interest in a Potential Angle/Hardy Feud?
11 of 16Charlie: I’m interested in a feud between these two. They’re big-name main event talents that can work a match to perfection.
They’re former world champions and pro wrestling veterans.
I joked about this feud a couple weeks ago saying it’ll be like “drinking vs. smoking” and “being drunk vs. being high.”
But in all seriousness, this feud could be awesome.
Kurt Angle has proven that Lockdown is his specialty. In 2010 and 2011, Angle’s matches at Lockdown could both be argued as match of the year candidates.
2010 Angle faced Ken Anderson. We all know how careless Anderson can be at time, but it worked. In 2011, Angle fought Jeff Jarrett. People argue that Jarrett should just retire, but their match worked.
Now, with Jeff Hardy, things can only get better.
I’m really hoping to see Jeff Hardy vs. Kurt Angle at Lockdown.
E-Rage: Angle vs. Hardy seems to be a feud that has been done before. The men have two different, contrasting styles with Hardy the high-flyer and Angle the master technician. I would like to see a feud between the two since it keeps both of them away from the World Title. Hardy, along with Angle, does not deserve any title shots yet. Let the Hardy and Angle feud while Roode and Storm finish their feud. The winner then could face the champ for the World Title then.
Jacob: Once again, I’m not interested in the least bit. Not at all.
SiD: This may be different from the others, but I really like the idea of Kurt and Jeff feuding. This excites me for some reason. Kurt and Jeff have been two of the best wrestlers we’ve seen, and putting these two in a program is dandy.
Jeff and Kurt would be a great feud, and you could add Roode and Storm to the mix, and you’ve got a great feud. Kurt and Jeff can talk, and they can certainly wrestle. I’m looking forward to this feud.
Is Sting/Roode at Victory Road a Good Booking Decision?
12 of 16Charlie: Victory Road or not, this match was going to happen.
It’s just been brewing since the first day Roode turned his back on everyone. Sting finally snapped and this match could be classic.
However, I’m curious to see where James Storm will fit in with the Victory Road card. He has a World title match at Lockdown and doesn’t really have a clear-cut opponent for Victory Road. It’d be stupid to leave the No. 1 contender off the card.
E-Rage: I am not really looking forward to seeing Roode vs. Sting anytime soon. Sting was great playing the GM of IMPACT since it kept him away from the ring. He was actually very entertaining as a face, sane character. The “Joker” Sting is not one of my favorite gimmicks of his and it seems to be a little corny in a sense. Let Roode and Storm feud while keeping Sting as GM to deal with both of them.
Jacob: Robert Roode will defeat Sting. There is not even a slim chance in the world that Sting would defeat Roode and strip him of his title.
So logic would dictate that would be predictable and nobody would want to see it. However, predictability is not really a bad thing. As long as the angle proves to be entertaining then it is a decent booking decision.
SiD: No, just no. Sting is above 50 and having matches with him will not be a good sight. Bobby Roode is great in his selfish generation role, to be honest. It should’ve been Ray vs. Roode vs. Storm, but that’s just me. Sting was competing in last year's Victory Road and we know how that went. It depends on Roode now, he may/may not be able to carry Sting to a good match. If Bobby does the needful, it will be an average match at least. But if Bobby can’t carry Sting, it will flop. Sting is a great wrestler, but his time has passed. His GM role is just fine, but a wrestling role now isn’t.
If You Can Pick Any TNA Wrestler to Be TV Champion, Who Would It Be? Why?
13 of 16Charlie: A lot of people come to mind.
The Pope, Matt Morgan, Hernandez, Daniels, Kazarian, Douglas Williams, Gunner, Mr. Anderson, et cetera.
If I could pick one person to be TNA television champion, I’d choose Robbie E!
That’s right, I’d keep Robbie E as the TV champion. Robbie is a good, young talent and because of that TV title, he’s had matches with in-ring veterans such as AJ Styles, Rob Van Dam, Devon and Douglas Williams.
The TV title is helping Robbie grow in-ring wise and you cannot say he’s not helping its credibility. He’s been a far better champion than Eric Young, Abyss, Douglas Williams, Mick Foley, Kevin Nash and Gunner combined.
Robbie has been champion for a little over 100 days and I hope he stays champ for another 100 days.
He’s defended the title plenty of times and has definitely helped the belt out since its horrible time with Eric Young.
If Robbie E was given a match every week or every other week, I think you’ll come to your senses and decide that Robbie E has been the greatest TV champion in a very, very long time.
E-Rage: As Television champion, I would like to see “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero.
The man is great in the ring and is even better on the mic. He obviously has charisma as evidenced by his promos.
The Pope hasn’t appeared on TV in a while so, a feud with Robbie E could get him relevant again. Plus, the TV Championship needs to be held in higher regard and a competitor such as The Pope could help with that.
Jacob: You know who’d make a great TV champion and is currently featured actively on IMPACT?
Frankie Kazarian, that’s who. Frankie has all the tools to carry midcard feuds and he is definitely deserving of a solid title run at this stage of his career. After this AJ/Daniels storyline blows over and Kaz returns to being a face character; look for him to be the one to end Robbie E’s reign.
SiD: AJ Styles.
AJ has had nothing going on now, except that Daniels/Kazarian thing. AJ should just leave Daniels now, because he isn’t doing him any favors.
AJ is the Jericho of TNA.
One day, he can job. But the next day, he could be a world champ and no one would even raise an eyebrow. And simply put, AJ is the face of TNA.
I personally like Robbie E. He is entertaining, and his “oh! oh! oh!” are funny. But the problem is that the title has now become an afterthought, because Robbie doesn’t defend it enough. So, it’s time for change. I wouldn’t mind Robbie E vs. AJ Styles.
What Is the Best Wrestling Show on TV Right Now?
14 of 16Charlie: This one is a tough question.
It feels like WWE and TNA have stepped up in a major way as of right now. WrestleMania season is in full effect and there’s plenty of things going on in the WWE.
TNA is always starting to go down Victory Road. Victory Road, of course, paving the way for the Road to Lockdown.
I believe IMPACT Wrestling is the best show on television.
All three shows (Raw, IMPACT and SmackDown) have great world champions. IMPACT, however, has had more attention on other championships featured.
This past week, we’ve seen every champion IMPACT has to offer.
The heavyweight champion, TV champion, X Division champion, Tag Team champions, Knockouts champion and Knockouts Tag Team champions.
I’m much more entertained by IMPACT than I am by SmackDown or Raw. There’s tons of things going on in wrestling right now, I feel like IMPACT Wrestling has some of the best stuff to offer right now.
E-Rage: The best show on television to me seems to be IMPACT.
IMPACT has stepped up its game this year with great wrestling consistently, along with some good storytelling.
New feuds such as Joe/Magnus vs. Crimson/Morgan. Along with the various X-Division feuds that have elevated its game.
Of course, IMPACT has had its weak points, such as Garrett Bischoff vs. Gunner, but the positives outweigh the negatives.
It seems that IMPACT wrestlers have stepped up their game even more. Such as Bully Ray, arguably the best heel in TNA today, Bobby Roode, a strong champion, Zema Ion, the newest competitor to A Double. Even the Knockouts have grown with new and better matches such as Gail Kim vs. Tara and keeping Mickie James away from the spotlight.
Jacob: Despite Raw and SmackDown churning out an entertaining product, I’m going to say IMPACT is the best wrestling show on TV right now. Yes, I do play favorites when it comes to TNA but hear me out.
Raw and SmackDown are very inconsistent. Raw/SmackDown will have an amazing show one week and have a terrible one the following. With IMPACT, there is consistency. Whether you like the product or not, you get what you came to see. That’s what I think separates Impact from its prime time competition.
SiD: This is tough. Let’s go with the elimination process.
Raw? Definitely no, in my opinion. Raw is not the same anymore, and I’m not liking it. It’s extremely predictable, and most of the shows are bad.
Next, NXT and Superstars. They both feature good wrestling, and have good storylines too. But, they can’t match the glitz and glamor of Raw, SmackDown or IMPACT.
IMPACT? Definitely my No. 2 show. Great wrestling, progressing storylines and they have improved a lot since the Immortal era.
And as for who is my No. 1?
SmackDown all the way. That show features good wrestling, the storylines are great, the performers have a bigger capacity of entertaining than the others. SmackDown is the best show on television.
What Is the Best Angle Currently Going On?
15 of 16Charlie: Like I said, both organizations are showing their "A-game."
There are so many different things going on. Rock/Cena, Undertaker/HHH, Sting/Roode and many more.
The one angle that has the most of my attention is Sting vs. Bobby Roode. Roode has been pushing Sting’s buttons since he first won the Heavyweight Championship and now Sting feels the need to lace up the boots again and check Bobby Roode back in line, himself.
I love every aspect about this angle.
Roode continuously pisses the general manager off to a point where he gets involved physically. Roode’s beat down on Sting last week was executed to perfection and, as we’ve seen on IMPACT, followed up by announcing a match between the world champ and general manager for Victory Road.
With “The Insane Icon” awake again, I cannot wait to see what will happen between these two next Thursday on IMPACT.
E-Rage: Generic, but a tough question nonetheless. The best angle on TV seems to be Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk. Jericho started the angle when he attacked Punk after his match with Daniel Bryan. Jericho would then speak and admit that he “trolled” the WWE Universe and proceeded to call everybody “Jericho wannabes”. He ran down the Miz, R-Truth and even Punk. Punk would come out and “trolled the troll” in a sense. Now, the reason that this angle is best is the fact that it holds two great talents the WWE has to offer. Like I said before, both men are exceptional on the mic. Jericho plays a condescending heel well, while Punk is just great overall. Jericho has a legitimate claim to the title since he was knocked out at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view so it adds to the angle overall.
Jacob: Watch John Cena’s shoot promo on the Rock from this past Raw. Enough said.
SiD: This is really tough.
We’ve got the Roode-Sting angle, as well as the HHH-Taker angle, the Y2J-Punk angle, but my winning angle is Tamina vs. Phoenix.
Just kidding, it is Y2J-Punk.
I’m really liking their confrontations, as Punk owns Jericho on the mic and Jericho wins every encounter.
This sums up for epic television. I’ll get my prediction on here too:
I feel that Jericho will win the title come WrestleMania. Well, because Jericho is the best at everything he does. No, because it will be good for a heel to win, since I don’t think any other heel is going to win on April 1.
