One Day International Cricket: Top 10 Performing Players in Current Tri-Series

Dan TalintyreJun 7, 2018

With just three matches remaining in the current tri-series between Australia, India and Sri Lanka, the final is still wide open with any side able to progress through and any side still able to be knocked out.

And with every team losing to the others, it truly is anybody's tournament for the taking.

Here are the 10 players who are doing their hardest to take the tournament for their country, and are backing it up with their incredible on-field performances.

1. Dinesh Chandimal (Sri Lanka)

1 of 10

Dinesh Chandimal is proving the go-to-guy for the Sri Lanka middle order this tournament, and has scored more runs than anything other player this series.

With three 50s in six innings, a strike rate of 80.73 and an average of 61.20, Chandimal has impressed perhaps more than anyone this series.

2. Peter Forrest (Australia)

2 of 10

It's not easy to fill the shoes of Ricky Ponting, but in his first match after Punter was dropped, Forrest notched up an impressive 104 to guide Australia to an impressive total.

They were eventually beaten by Sri Lanka, but with the highest score of the series so far, the young Australian is impressing many as a player of the future.

3. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (India)

3 of 10

With less than 200 runs to his name for the series, you may be forgiven for thinking that Dhoni is under-performing—and you are right to an extent.

But his abilities in the final overs to get the win for India still remain one of the best, and most impressive, in international cricket.

4. David Hussey (Australia)

4 of 10

It's not easy batting at No. 6—especially when it's in a side stacked with talent, meaning you often only get five overs to score runs.

So to have hit the second-highest amount of runs and sixes in the series, with an average of 94.66 and a strike rate of 110.93, David Hussey is doing a very good job.

5. Ben Hilfenhaus (Australia)

5 of 10

Seven wickets at an average of 12.

84 runs allowed at an average of 4.30 per over, and a strike rate of just over 16.

In two matches.

6. Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka)

6 of 10

He might not have the pace of Lasith Malinga, but he does have more wickets for the series, and is proving to be tougher to handle for batsmen across both sides.

Perera has taken the equal highest amount of wickets for the series, and has done so with an average of just above 20.

7. Xavier Doherty (Australia)

7 of 10

As a spinner, you're going to go for some runs in the shorter form of the game.

So when you bowl at the death, like Doherty has been, and take seven wickets for the series at four runs per over, you can know you've done a great job for your country.

8. Virender Sehwag (India)

8 of 10

The guy is ancient, and he still moves well enough to take the best catch of the series so far.

I'm impressed.

9. Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka)

9 of 10

The Sri Lankan veteran is finding great form again this series—chalking up the third-highest amount of runs for the series at an average over 50.

His strike rate is over 90, which impresses greatly considering his career ODI rate sits around 77.

10. Matthew Wade (Australia)

10 of 10

To keep a natural, pure hitter like Brad Haddin out of any side, you've got to be playing good cricket.

Matthew Wade's 150 runs so far at a strike rate over 70 combined with his 11 catches and two stumpings prove that he's doing exactly that.
