2012 NFL Free Agents: St. Louis Rams Crazy to Consider Albert Haynesworth

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

Jeff Fisher is really trying to make some noise as the St. Louis Rams' new head coach. It's just too bad that "noise" comes in the form of big defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.

According to the National Football Post, Jeff Fisher has expressed interest in the big boy.

Haynesworth, who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, can be signed before free agency begins on March 13.

I can see Fisher's thought process behind this move. The Rams gave up 4.1 yards per carry in 2011 and Fisher would certainly like to bolster their interior depth.

Meanwhile, Haynesworth, who is about the size of two houses, is a good way to bolster anything.

What's more, the big man was at his best when he was with the Tennessee Titans under Fisher.

I get that much.

However, is the former Volunteer really worth it?

After receiving his $100 million contract back in 2008, he hasn't been the same.

He was a bust with the Washington Redskins, he was waived by the New England Patriots after half a season and was then released by the Bucs.

If you're constantly getting dropped by teams with needs in the middle, you know there is something wrong.

Haynesworth is obviously talented, but he is incapable of putting his skills to use. He's lazy and seemingly not motivated.

The Rams and Jeff Fisher would certainly turn some heads with this signing, but that shouldn't be the goal at this time.

It would be much better for the franchise to go elsewhere in free agency or find someone in the draft, which is very deep with defensive tackles.
