All-Star Skills Challenge: Rajon Rondo Will Replace Injured Stephen Curry

Eric BowmanMay 31, 2018

Rajon Rondo took Joe Johnson's spot in the 2012 All-Star Game, and now he's replacing Stephen Curry in the 2012 All-Star Skills Challenge.

According to NBC Sports Pro Basketball Talk, the NBA announced that Rondo will fill in for the defending Skills Challenge champ.

Curry suffered a right foot injury a few days ago, and he is making the right call to skip out on the All-Star festivities.

This is a smart move by Curry as well as the NBA. They replaced a big-name player with another big-name guy, which won't hinder the ratings.

It is a bummer that Curry doesn't get a chance to win back-to-back All-Star Skills Challenges, but his health should always be his main focus.

The Golden State Warriors are currently three games out of eighth place in the Western Conference, so making the playoffs is still a strong possibility.

They need Curry to be 100 percent for the second half of the season, which is why resting during the All-Star break has to be done.

As for Rondo, despite recently being suspended, he gets to participate in the All-Star Game and now the Skills Challenge.

He should do well in both, as he is a phenomenal player. Rondo will be up against Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs, John Wall of the Washington Wizards, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets.
