WWE Shouldn't Give CM Punk vs. Chris Brown Twitter Feud Added Exposure
On Monday, a Twitter war of lame proportions took shape as WWE Champion CM Punk took a shot at R&B artist Chris Brown. Since then, the two have exchanged verbal barbs, and you better believe the the WWE has tried to capitalize on it. That type of promotion is something that needs to end immediately.
Not that any real reason is needed to speak ill of Chris Brown, but Punk insulted him first, according to Alexis L. Loinaz of E! Online. Punk made reference to Brown's 2009 assault of fellow musician and ex-girlfriend Rihanna in the tweet and expressed a desire to return the favor on Brown.

Brown retorted by condescendingly offering Punk an autographed photo. Then he went for a low blow in a tweet that has since been deleted. Brown reportedly threw a haymaker at Punk by suggesting that he was on performance-enhancing drugs and that his performance in other areas may be adversely affected.
"@CMpunk needs more followers. He's such a leader! Not to mention the roids he's on has made it utterly impossible for him pleasure women.
"
Since then, Punk has posted a video defending his drug-free lifestyle, rightly blasting Brown for his transgressions and challenging him to a fight. That prompted Brown to smugly question who Punk even was.
WWE programming mentioned the feud on its live edition of SmackDown on Tuesday, and it appears as though the company is trying to get some mainstream attention. It's understandable why WWE is getting involved since it loves to capitalize on opportunities at national attention, but the fact of the matter is that Brown shouldn't be benefiting from this in any way.
Punk has been dead-on with everything he has said, but at this point I wish that he had never mentioned Brown's name. As evidenced by his checkered past, Brown is a hot head, so Punk had to know that Brown wasn't simply going to allow his tweet to go by the wayside.
For some strange reason, Brown is still considered relevant in the public eye when he should be getting blackballed for what he did to Rihanna. While WWE promoting the war of words helps get the company over with the general public, it also gives Brown association with the product, which is something no wrestling fan wants to see.
In one respect, it would be great to see a shoot fight between Punk and Brown because Brown would finally get what he has coming to him, but ultimately it would be best to simply move on. The sole focus right now should be on Punk and Chris Jericho feuding into WrestleMania because it has the potential to be one of the best rivalry matches for the WWE in quite some time.
Even just mentioning Brown takes away from that, and with so much currently going right in the WWE on the road to WrestleMania, there's no need to muddle things. It's well documented that Punk is a better role model than Brown, and the company doesn't have to push their Twitter battle in order to prove it.
The more Brown is talked about in the media, the more it vindicates the dastardly things he has done. Simply ignoring his existence is much more likely to hit Brown where it hurts, and that is precisely what the WWE should do.
