Stephen Curry Injury: Updates on Warriors Star's Foot Injury

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

For the second time this season, Stephen Curry is in danger of missing time.

The Golden State Warriors' second-leading scorer left last night's game in the second quarter with a tendon injury in his right foot.

You can take all that hope of seeing Stephen Curry suit up and throw it all away. The official Twitter feed of the Golden State Warriors has bad news for their fans.

"

UPDATE: Tuesday, February 27th, 12:00 p.m. EDT

We were holding out hope that Curry would be good to go after a few days of rest during the All-Star game. Sadly, it seems he has a little more recuperation to do.

The San Francisco Chronicle's Rusty Simmons tweets some bad news for Warriors fans.

"

Coach Mark Jackson said "it's highly unlikely" Stephen Curry (right ankle) will play tonight.

UPDATE: Monday, February 27th, 12:00 p.m. EDT

Stephen Curry is playing the roll of optimist in his latest injury update. He is hoping to play Tuesday but the prognosis makes that soon of a start doubtful.

Marcus Thompson II of The Mercury News reports the following:

"

Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has a sprained deltoid ligament in his right foot, according to results from an MRI exam...

Curry said his MRI exam also revealed tendon sheath inflammation (swelling of the membrane around the tendon). The likely swollen tendon in this case is the posterior tibial, which attaches the calf and the foot and is in the same area of the deltoid.

"

Curry seemed confident that he would be on the court soon enough, stating the following.

"

I'm hopeful I can play Tuesday. It feels better. Rehab is going well. Just have to see how it responds the next couple of days. I'm confident I won't miss much time, if any.

"

There is no need to rush one of the Warriors' best players. It's likely Curry will be out at least one more game, but we will certainly update you when his status changes.

Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle writes:

"

Curry strained the tibialis posterior tendon in his right foot during the first quarter. After X-rays were negative on Curry's foot, he tried to give it a go late in the second quarter but couldn't continue. He said he was in pain and the team doctors weren't sure if he had plantar fasciitis.

"

If he does have plantar fasciitis, the only recipe for rehab is rest.

Curry has a history of battling back extremely well though, and the Warriors are off until next Tuesday thanks to All-Star break.

He was slated to defend his title in the Taco Bell Skills Competition, but that won't be happening now. According to Sekou Smith of NBA.com:

"

Rather than making the trip (to Orlando), Young said Curry would rest and rehab his injury this weekend. He’s already missed nine games this season with an ankle injury.

"

But while he will sit out in Orlando, doctors are optimistic that he won't miss any more game time. Marcus Thompson of the Contra Costa Times reports:

"

“Doctors told him he needs to stay off it as much as possible,” Young said in a phone interview Thursday. “He feels like it will be fine in three or four days. He’s very optimistic he will play in Indianapolis.”

"

That is great news for a Warriors team chasing the postseason.

Golden State is currently 13-17, three games out of the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. They'll need Curry if they want to make anything out of this season, but they'll need him to be healthy.

If the injury is serious they'll have to be patient with him, even though they may not want to be. Nate Robinson would pick up more minutes in his absence.

More news on Curry's status will come as more is known.
