Chicago Cubs: 5 Simple Ways to Improve Wrigley Field

Jeff ChaseJun 7, 2018

Is there anything more beautiful or precious than Wrigley Field?

OK—perhaps to most there is, but not to diehard Chicago Cubs fans.

For that reason, that is why so many have been so harsh on any type of change that has been proposed to the stadium, and they are right.

Wrigley is landmark, and it is something that should not be tampered with. Improvements, sure. But beyond that, the park should pretty much be left as is.

These are five things that the club can do to improve the stadium, while not hurting what it represents.

Add a Hall of Fame

1 of 5

I know Wrigley Field has the retired numbers up the flag poles and the statues outside the stadium, but I think a nice addition would be some sort of Hall of Fame.

Just like what the New York Yankees have.

It wouldn't cause any commotion from the fans, and it would allow a new generation of fans to learn about the past.

The Cubs do have attributes to their past throughout the stadium, but nothing would be more than a spectacle somewhere in or outside the stadium.

Add Displays

I am one of those people who are against a jumbotron being added to Wrigley Field, but something the club could add is the addition of more screens.

Yes, there are some in the upper deck, but there really isn't anything for instant replay and such.

A jumbotron would be too overwhelming and would kill the aesthetic of the environment, but adding some sort of replay device would really help for those who are lost on what just happened.

Make It Easier to Get Around

3 of 5

It is impossible to get around Wrigley Field.

The inside of the friendly confines is so small, that it can take almost 30 minutes to get out the place. There are pretty much just three ways out, and the indoor aisles are about as wide as a subway station.

While it would be difficult to change the size of the interior, considering the building and not wanting to crush it down, this may be biting off a little more than one can chew.

Perhaps if they could stabilize the building while expanding the inside corridors, Wrigley would be a much easier place to get around.

Get Rid of the Troughs

4 of 5

From what I understand, the Chicago Cubs are beginning to make efforts to remove the troughs and finally replace most with urinals.

Until that renovation officially takes place, the troughs will remain on this list.

Considering that most prefer to not be elbow to elbow while relieving themselves, I think we all—at least all the men—can agree that this pretty high on the list of improvements we would all like to see at Wrigley.

More Festivities

5 of 5

So at Wrigley we have the opening pitch from some D-list celebrity and somebody singing the seventh-inning stretch, but besides all of that, there really are not that many festivities going on within the park.

Considering that most of the time these are families going out to the game together, it is quite surprising that the Cubs don't have anything too interactive for the crowd during stretches.

Sure, there are the Dunkin' Donuts races and such, but I am talking about on-field action.

Considering the Cubs don't have an official mascot that walks around the stadium, it is may be time to finally get something going on so that the fans—mostly the youngins'—can have a little more fun while at the ball park.
