WWE Smackdown Results: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Justin WatryFeb 17, 2012

This was a fine edition of WWE Smackdown. Nothing was amazing, yet nothing stunk up the place. Well, besides Natalya!

OK, it was just a joke, folks. Relax! Anyways, this was an entertaining two hours, as WWE prepares for the Elimination Chamber this Sunday. If I had to grade the show, I would fall in the B range.

The Good

Randy Orton is out of the Chamber match this Sunday! That is a great move. Kayfabe or not, safety comes first. I could be upset that I won't see him live in the arena in two days, but I'm not.

His health is much more important than any "wins," "losses," or advancement in a character for television. Get well, Mr. RKO!

The Great Khali and Big Show defeated Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes to begin the evening. All four men looked good, and the "every man for himself" motto was made well known after the match.

We saw Mark Henry backstage wanting the final spot in the Chamber this Sunday. Thankfully, Teddy Long made no such thing happen. He needs to be healthy. Again, safety comes first.

Big Show causing chaos backstage all night was interesting. Maybe this will lead into his WrestleMania story? Perhaps something with Henry again? I will wait and see on this one.

WWE aired a commercial for "Super Smackdown" live next Tuesday night. I like doing this every few months, but I see no reason for a permanent move. As ratings have said for months now, being taped on Friday nights is not an "excuse."

Ratings are doing great for the Blue Brand and have done better than live Tuesday specials. That popular "theory" of making Smackdown live and that changing nights will increase their ratings is incorrect. Numbers don't lie!

Daniel Bryan cut a fun promo. He got some more "heat" on himself, and the crowd is starting to come around on his character. As long as the story stays away from vegan and meat talking every week, I will enjoy it.

Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes talking to Teddy Long backstage was excellent. Both will be big stars one day in WWE. However, that time is not now.

Jinder Mahal defeated Ezekial Jackson. It was short, and the heel went over relatively clean. That works for me. Good job!

David Otunga and Johnny Ace showing up late was funny. I love how they kept using the word "charisma." You had to know every Christian fan was jumping up and down waiting for his arrival.

Me? I still see no reason for him to return. I am big fan of his, but I'd rather have him come back with a purpose instead of just having him return for no reason.

As for the main event, it was wonderful! I loved every second of this. WWE played up the "wild card" aspect, and it really was a nice hook for the show.

This reminded me of the "Breakthrough Battle Royal" in 2009 on Raw. Everybody who has yet to be a World Champion was eligible. It gave a lot of new faces a chance to shine (even though Randy Orton was added late).

Sheamus ended up winning, last eliminating Kofi Kingston. He took that victory to beat John Cena for the WWE Title at WWE TLC the following month.

That was this exact scenario. It was men from every show, including NXT and Superstars. In the end, it didn't matter. Santino Marella won and is going to the Elimination Chamber match!

Being there live this Sunday, you can bet I will be rooting him on. If WWE decides to have somebody attack him before the match begins, we may be seeing a new World Champion in two days.

Not to my "it" girls!

Rosa Mendes led Primo and Epico to victory once again. Jimmy and Jey Uso gave it their best shot, but the tag team champions are tough to beat right now. Rosa continues to be the real star of the division, and she proved it again tonight!

As for Alicia Fox, she had a great showing. Tamina was the main focus here, as she is getting the title match Sunday night. Nattie and Beth Phoenix losing in a tag match is no big deal.

As for the "gassy" situation in the ring, I didn't mind it. The referee was great in his reaction. The "distraction" allowed for her to lose, and that was all she wrote!

Kharma is still waiting for WrestleMania to face Beth, so this will be fine until then.

All I was missing was Aksana! Maybe next week...

The Bad

Hunico defeated Ted DiBiase. I have lost count how many times these two have faced each other. I want to like this feud so badly, but I don't.

Both are talented, but it is time to move on.

The Ugly

WrestleMania XXVIII will not feature Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus!

It can't.

We just saw that tonight. Call it a "teaser." Call it whatever you want. I don't care. This match happening now tells me we won't be seeing it at Mania.

Having this take place so close to the big event tells me something is going to happen this Sunday. I have no idea what that "something" is, but it will be big.

Either we are going to see a World title change or the Smackdown title match at WrestleMania is going to be a multi-man match. Again, it can't be Bryan vs. Sheamus anymore. We just saw that!

Finally, I don't like double duty. I am sorry. I don't. There was no reason for a few men to wrestle twice tonight. Short match. Long match. Battle royal. It doesn't matter. Safety comes first!
