Fake Jeremy Lin Nike Shoes Causing Stir Online
Everyone's been waiting for Jeremy Lin to take the next logical step into the Nike shoe business (or for Nike to take the step into Lin business), and it finally—after one long week—appears the wait is over.
Well, not so fast.
In the past few days, the Internet has absolutely blown up with a picture (above) of Nike's new "Linsanity" shoe.
The report, which came from Counterkicks.com, said that Nike had created a Jeremy Lin "Linsanity" edition of the Zoom Hyperfuse 2011:
"Lin has been rotating simple White/Blue and Black/White editions of the Hyperfuse 2011 Low since he started his favored run on February 4th. His newly reported custom Hyperfuse 2011 PE is flavored up in New York Knicks team colors, we’ve been told.
"
Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but according to CNBC's Darren Rovell, the shoe is fake:
"These pics of Jeremy Lin's new Nike shoes have been flying around the internet. They are fake.
"
And honestly, I'm not really sure how there was ever even a thought that this was real (hindsight is a beautiful thing).
First of all, if Nike wanted to churn out a shoe that fast, it would mean it wouldn't be able to market it for as long. That's just not Nike's style.
I would be shocked (shocked!) if Nike rushed to release a Linsanity shoe.
Second, the "Lin" logo looks legit (hello, alliteration) with the Knicks-style basketball dotting the "i" and all, but it seriously looks like someone just glued construction paper onto the shoe.
Sorry to say it, but if you were excited to get your hands on some Linsoles (had to do it), it appears you'll have to keep waiting.
But if I were to guess, if Lin keeps dropping 20 and eight every night, he will have his shoe soon enough.
Don't worry.
I'm just waiting for Nike to rename the company "Lin."
