WWE News: Reviews, Analysis and Rumors for Week of Feb. 5

Mike ChiariJun 7, 2018

The quick build toward Elimination Chamber continued this past week, as the card was beefed up a bit and some particulars were released regarding the Chamber matches. In addition to that, though, there continues to be plenty of anticipation for WrestleMania.

Every week is sure to be an important one from now until April 1, as the shows are integral in setting up wrestling's biggest event of the year. Monday's edition of RAW figures to be huge because a legendary superstar is returning, possibly to get involved in a 'Mania match.

Also, the John Cena vs. Kane feud continues to trudge along, at least until Cena reignites his feud with The Rock ahead of WrestleMania. Not everything is fun and games, though, as there is one superstar who is reportedly getting heat from all angles.

Here are WWE's biggest headlines and rumors for the week of Feb. 5:

Shawn Michaels Returning to RAW

1 of 5

On the latest edition of RAW, it was announced by John Laurinaitis that WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels would make his return to WWE programming on the upcoming RAW.

With Michaels' biggest rival, The Undertaker, trying to goad Michaels' best friend Triple H into another match at WrestleMania, it would seem obvious that the Heartbreak Kid will have something to say about it.

My Take

It's fair to say that having Michaels back on television, in any capacity, is never a bad thing. HBK was slightly involved in the Undertaker vs. Triple H angle last year and he took part in an epic promo, although he ultimately didn't appear during the match. There is reason to believe, however, that things could be different this year.

Triple H has said that he doesn't want to face The Undertaker again, so Michaels is sure to either support him on Monday, or try to persuade him otherwise.

A lot of the talk has been about HBK possibly being the special guest referee for Taker vs. Triple H at 'Mania, and that would be fantastic. There is potential for him to screw over either competitor, so Michaels' involvement will make things very unpredictable.

Alberto Del Rio Legitimately Hates The Miz

2 of 5

In a recent radio interview with 95.7 THE GAME in Northern California, Alberto Del Rio had some very interesting things to say. Del Rio, who has returned to the house show circuit after recovering from a groin tear, expressed a strong dislike for The Miz.

While it could have been construed as a storyline thing, Del Rio went so far as to say that it wasn't an angle and that Miz is like "a little girl."

My Take

This comes as a huge surprise to me. It's very rare for wrestlers to publicly express hatred toward one another in the media when they're still working together. It's even more surprising that Del Rio can't stand The Miz because he comes across as very personable in interviews, and I have never personally heard a bad thing about him outside the ring.

I tend to side with Miz in this situation because Del Rio came off as arrogant in this interview. He said that he doesn't like to hang out with any of the other wrestlers, and he called himself a real athlete due to his MMA background.

Del Rio may be more physically gifted than The Miz, but he was handed everything from the moment he joined the company, while Miz had to scratch and claw his way up from the basement. For that, Miz deserves a ton of respect.

John Cena Puts Kane Through Table at Abu Dhabi Press Conference

3 of 5

John Cena and Kane have continued their bizarre feud over whether or not Cena will "embrace the hate." While it has been quite stagnant and sloppy thus far, the angle took a pretty interesting twist this week.

During a press conference in Dubai to promote a WWE tour of Abu Dhabi, Cena and Kane had a run-in that resulted in the leader of the Cenation putting the Big Red Monster through a table with an Attitude Adjustment.

My Take

It seems like the popular opinion is that this angle was a way to bury Kane and further enhance the mystique of "Super" Cena. While that is the pessimistic way of looking at it, the optimistic, and more importantly correct, way of looking at it is that it helped to liven up the feud.

Only so much can be done in the limited amount of television time that superstars receive in a week, so doing something like this at a press event is refreshing.

The WWE has been doing a nice job of putting non-television content on its website to enhance feuds, and this is yet another example of that. Furthermore, it made the tour of Abu Dhabi seem extremely important, as the company went through all the trouble to do an angle. Hopefully this is something that continues to happen in the future.

John Cena vs. Kane in Ambulance Match at Elimination Chamber?

4 of 5

It was announced on RAW by interim RAW general manager and Mr. Excitement himself, John Laurinaitis, that John Cena and Kane would continue their feud at Elimination Chamber in an ambulance match.

While it is a pretty rare match in the company's history, the object is to incapacitate your opponent to the point where you can put him in an ambulance. Kane and Shane McMahon competed in such a match in 2003.

My Take

Some might consider this to be a lame excuse for a gimmick match, but I find an ambulance match to be apropos for this particular feud. Kane has been victimizing Cena, Eve and Zack Ryder as of late, and he has had Ryder sent off in an ambulance on a couple occasions.

With Cena soon having to branch off and get his feud with The Rock going ahead of WrestleMania, his feud with Kane needs a conclusion soon.

If the point of this feud is to ultimately give Cena's character more of a ruthless edge, then this could be just the match to make it happen. Cena has been shown to get worked up when it comes to Kane in recent weeks, and there have been signs of him embracing hate.

If he is able to beat down Kane and perhaps use some hellish tactics in doing so, it will make him a much more well-rounded character moving forward.

Miz in Trouble over Miscommunication with R-Truth on RAW?

5 of 5

An awkward moment took place on the latest edition of RAW, during the six-pack challenge to determine who would enter the RAW Chamber match last at Elimination Chamber.

At one point, R-Truth clotheslined The Miz over the top rope and followed it up with a somersault to the floor. There was a miscommunication, however, as Truth missed Miz and hit his head on the floor, causing him to be removed from the match.

According to Richard Gray of Wrestling News World, Miz got chewed out backstage by Triple H after the match because he failed to break Truth's fall. Truth escaped injury, but there still appears to be a lot of heat on Miz over the incident.

My Take

It appears to be "pile on Miz week," and once again I feel the need to stand up for him. I understand that it is of the utmost importance for wrestlers to protect each other in matches. Miz ultimately failed to do that by allowing Truth to hit the floor, so he deserves some of the blame.

At the same time, though, Truth is just as responsible. After looking at the tape tons of times, it is quite evident that Truth's high-risk maneuver was off the mark. He jumped too far to the left of Miz, so Miz was unable to break his fall.

Many are saying that Miz could have easily stopped it, but he would have literally had to run under Truth, and it would have looked ridiculous. Maybe Miz should have made a better decision, but it happened in a split second, and Truth didn't hold up his end of the bargain.

I honestly hope it isn't true that Triple H embarrassed Miz backstage, because he has to understand that accidents happen in wrestling and that one person isn't always to blame necessarily.
