WWE/TNA: My Top 10 Moments of the Week (Feb. 6-10)
Another week of professional wrestling has ended and it was quite the step down from last week.
Monday Night Raw was a huge letdown. The show was an overall disappointment coming off from the great show they had last week.
TNA’s Impact Wrestling emanated from London, England once again and they had a great show. TNA has been on a roll lately and I hope that they can keep it up.
Friday Night SmackDown was a decent show. It wasn’t as good as last week, but it was certainly better than Raw.
Overall, I have to give this week to TNA Wrestling, as they had the better of the three shows!
Here are my top 10 moments of the week!
10. Beth Phoenix and Tamina
1 of 10I think that this is the first time the WWE Divas have ever made it onto this list.
This started on Raw when Tamina got the victory for her team against Beth Phoenix, Natalya and the Bella Twins.
As Tamina celebrated her win, Beth looked on from the outside with an approving look on her face.
On SmackDown, Beth mowed down Alicia Fox and was about to destroy her when Tamina ran out for the save. The two women had an intense staredown, as Beth once again looked at her approvingly.
What I like most about this is the fact that Tamina is somebody new!
I got sick of seeing Beth mow over Kelly Kelly, Eve and Alicia time after time, and it was about time she got to face somebody new.
If Tamina is anything like her father, Jimmy Snuka, then a match with Beth Phoenix could be very good!
9. Mickie James vs. Velvet Sky
2 of 10This match was a lot better than I expected. The match featured some nice back-and-forth action, and it even had some mat wrestling. It was quite good.
Velvet has really improved since her debut in TNA five years ago. She really was just a pretty face early on and was just good for eye candy as a member of the Beautiful People.
She has really improved over the past five years, though, and she is able to deliver good performances now.
I thought it would be her that would bring the match down facing off against someone like Mickie James, but I was pleasantly surprised with the result.
Mickie was Mickie and I was actually quite glad to see her lose this match.
As I’ve said many times, I’m a big fan of hers, but she’s only been around for two years and we’ve seen her more than veteran Knockout’s like Sarita and Angelina Love.
It’s time for others to have the spotlight, like Velvet.
She really has worked hard since her debut in 2007 and she was rewarded with a 28-day title reign.
Whoever wins between Gail Kim and Tara at Against All Odds, I hope that Velvet gets the next shot.
8. Sheamus and Big Show vs. Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes
3 of 10Despite being the typical tag-team match, I thought this was quite the good one. All four wrestlers performed very well and made for an enjoyable match to watch.
Barrett and Rhodes make a great team; they should team up more often. I liked how they kept the Big Show down for part of the match.
Seeing the World’s Largest Athlete being beaten down like that isn’t a sight the fans see very often.
It showed that Barrett and Rhodes are forces to be reckoned with and nothing will stand in their way, not even a giant.
If both Barrett and Rhodes don’t have a world title sometime this year, then WWE will be making a big mistake.
I think that both of them have the talent to carry the company as champion.
Sheamus was great as well, but he’s usually like that. He was kept strong by picking up the win for him and Big Show, which is a very good thing.
You can’t have the Royal Rumble winner looking weak leading up to WrestleMania.
7. Bobby Roode and Bully Ray vs. Sting and James Storm
4 of 10While this was a bit slow at times, I thought this was a good match. Each of the four wrestlers performed well and it delivered an enjoyable match.
I didn’t like that it was Sting who defeated Roode, though. He’s in charge now, and while I understand having him wrestle on occasion, he shouldn’t be pinning the world heavyweight champion.
James Storm really should have been the one to pin Roode.
Sting makes a great general manager and should concentrate on that.
Having him wrestle for special occasions like a television taping in London or one of TNA’s big PPVs will always be good to see, but it shouldn’t be in the main feud of the company.
Without a doubt, my favorite part of the match was Bully Ray walking out on Roode.
Bully Ray is a great heel and he’s been Roode’s calf-loving sidekick for too long.
It was about time that he started to act like he’s going to be in a world title match.
Will he win the belt? I highly doubt it, but having tension between the two heels creates more intrigue for the match.
6. Austin Aries vs. Alex Shelley vs. Douglas Williams
5 of 10This was a good match that kept its fast pace from beginning to end.
It was good to see Douglas Williams back in the ring, though, I fear he was only there because TNA was in London.
Seeing Williams do some high-flying maneuvers was weird since he’s more of a mat-based wrestler, but it was a nice change of pace for him.
His Rolling Chaos Theory finisher is always great to see and, to me, it's second only to Petey Williams’ Canadian Destroyer in terms of best finishers!
Aries was great like he usually is and A Double continued to prove why he’s the champion.
While he did spend more time on the outside than the other two, that gave Shelley and Williams a chance to fight, which was great to see.
Alex Shelley was also great and it really makes me miss the Motor City Machine Guns. I can’t wait for Chris Sabin to come back so the Guns can feud with Samoa Joe and Magnus.
That’s if Joe and Magnus win the titles, of course.
All three wrestlers performed great, and TNA should really feature Williams more often.
Austin Aries and Alex Shelley will undoubtedly be stealing the show at Against All Odds.
5. The Chris Jericho/CM Punk Confrontation
6 of 10This is the confrontation we’ve all been waiting for and nothing even happened!
But that’s what I liked about it.
While Jericho finally said more than one sentence by saying that everyone was a Y2J wannabe, his main target was the WWE champion, CM Punk.
Punk wasn’t the best in the world, Jericho was. Y2J was back to reclaim what was his.
That brought out Punk, who had the pipe bomb. He simply dropped the mic and raised the title above his head before leaving.
This was an overall great segment, especially the ending.
Jericho was great on the mic. He hasn’t lost a step and really does do his best work as a heel.
While I wanted to see Punk drop the pipe bomb on Jericho, I was happier with the result that did happen.
I loved how they handled the confrontation.
Jericho mentioned that he trolled all of the fans by not saying a single word. Punk repaid the favor.
Y2J has been silent since his return, so the champion gave him a taste of his own medicine.
While I thought this was great, I can’t wait until the inevitable verbal confrontation between these superstars. It will be pure gold!
4. Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton
7 of 10This was quite the good match here. This was the very first time Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton have gone one-on-one, and they performed quite well with each other.
Both wrestlers put on good performances, and I would love to see them enter into a legit feud this year.
Orton has really improved over the past few years and is, without a doubt, one of the best WWE has in the ring. While I don’t want to see him as champion anytime soon, I want him kept relevant in matches like this.
Bryan really has become a great champion, and his style of wrestling meshed very well with WWE’s Apex Predator.
I didn’t like the ending, but I liked the aftermath of it.
Bryan did his typical heel move when he provoked the Big Show to attack him. The World’s Largest Athlete did when he pushed him away and threw him back into the ring.
Bryan won the match by disqualification and that didn’t sit too well with Orton.
The Viper and the giant then went at it. I wished that that show didn’t end right there because I wanted to see who was going to take out who.
3. The A.J./Michael Cole/Daniel Bryan Segment
8 of 10I kind of groaned when this segment was about to start. I thought that Michael Cole would berate both A.J. and Daniel Bryan, then that would be the end of it.
I was pleasantly surprised when it didn’t turn out that way.
While Cole did berate both of them, A.J. spoke up and laid into Cole. She said what has been on the mind of many fans: Michael Cole was a biased, obnoxious jerk, and that the WWE would be better off if he shut up.
Cole started to freak out and that brought out the champion. He talked about himself, like he has been as of late, and left the ring.
Backstage, he and A.J. were about to leave the arena when Teddy Long threatened to strip him of the title if he did.
I thought this segment was great.
While Cole was his annoying self, Bryan was great on the mic. I would really love to see them go back and forth on the mic one week without Cole running way.
As for A.J., she was great as well. What I liked most was that a WWE Diva was given a voice!
When was the last time that really happened?
Only LayCool comes to mind and they were a tag-team.
A.J. was given a voice and I hope WWE continues that with not only her, but with the other Divas as well.
And Teddy Long seems to have regrown his backbone. It’s about damn time!
2. A.J. Styles vs. Christopher Daniels
9 of 10Styles and Daniels put on another show here and treated the TNA fans to a good match.
It featured quite a bit of back-and-forth action and had a great pace to it. Both wrestlers performed very well and still work great together.
At the same time, I think these men really have given us everything in their arsenals already.
While it was a good match, it wasn’t as good as previous encounters. They have faced each other so many times that they seemed to have run out of things to do to make the match different.
I hope this is the last time we’ll see them go one-on-one, as TNA really relies on them facing too much.
The Kazarian factor was great, though.
For about a month or so now, Daniels has had some kind of hold over Kaz. Kaz doesn’t seem to want to do what Daniels is telling him, but he ultimately does it.
I am very interested to know what the Fallen Angel is holding over his head.
1. The Undertaker Video
10 of 10The opening segment from Monday Night Raw bored the hell out of me.
Triple H just stood in the ring and talked about the Undertaker and it took him 20 minutes to deny the Deadman’s request for a match at WrestleMania.
As the Game was about to leave, though, the lights went out and a video started to play.
It featured footage from the match last year between Undertaker and Triple H and had the Demon of Death Valley sitting in a chair.
He said that it wasn’t over and that his victory meant nothing until he gained vengeance.
While Triple H almost put me to sleep, the segment was saved by this video.
It was very well done and was quite creepy at times.
While I would much prefer to see Undertaker face someone else at WrestleMania, I like how they’re going about this storyline.
The Undertaker is taking the role that Shawn Michaels had before Wrestlemania 26. Michaels needed that rematch with the Deadman, and now the Undertaker needs that rematch with Triple H.
This seems like it’ll all be done without him actually being there, but that’s perfectly fine with me.
The WWE editors always pull out their best work for WrestleMania and the Undertaker. Any video they put together for the Deadman will be 10 times better than any promo Triple H will do.
