Real Madrid: 5 Reasons Nobody Can Stop La Liga's Premier Team
What will it take for Real Madrid to win La Liga this year?
Of course, the Copa del Rey is out of the question, thanks to their match with FC Barcelona, who are finalists at this point.
Yes, as cliched as this might sound, all they have to do is continue performing the way they have, and Barca will wilt under the pressure.
Winning the La Liga this year will result in a refreshing changing of the guard when it comes to judging who is the undisputed leader in Spanish club football. Yet we're only halfway through the season...
So, here are some probable reasons why it looks like Real Madrid might deny Barca a fourth title this year.
A Near-Perfect La Liga Record so Far
1 of 5Statistics-wise, Real Madrid have been pegging away at their matches and notching up wins, while their archrivals could only come up with draws.
While this Barca team is truly brilliant, all Real Madrid will have to do is "stay on course."
(I am a diehard Barca fan, but even I'll admit that it's going to be a steep task.)
Cristiano Ronaldo Is on Top...but Only Just!
2 of 5Ronaldo is coming in at first place at this point, with 24 goals from 21 games to Messi's 23 goals for the season. Messi has a couple more assists than Ronaldo.
Of course, Messi has nothing to prove—thanks to his three Ballor D'Or trophies—but there's no denying that Ronaldo is ahead, if only just...
But the crux of this aspect is that Real Madrid will stay on top if Ronaldo does too...
Another Pichichi trophy this year. What do you say?
Jose Mourinho: Sheer Class
3 of 5Coming from an avid fan of the opposite camp, it befuddles me how people can belittle a manager who has achieved so much! Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and now, Real.
Yes, we're talking about the issues that cropped up between Mourinho and his players, such as Iker and Ramos. It's understandable that things are said in the heat of the moment, but when does the "star value" of a player take over the team and make disparaging remarks about the manager alright?
No matter what you think of Mourinho, his stint at Madrid has changed things for the better. Last year's Copa del Rey win and his absolutely record-breaking stats this year tell you why he's called "The Special One" alright.
He might have not been a player, but he sure knows what he's doing.
(It will be lovely to see him manage Manchester City or United in the future.)
An Apt Replacement for Higuain
4 of 5Higuain's back injury was anything but welcome last year, yet Benzema has stepped up to the challenge with 10 goals in 19 matches so far.
So much for "hunting in pairs," huh?
A Distinct Psychological Advantage over the Catalans?
5 of 5This is a different Real Madrid. Quick. Rough. Hungry, if you will. Not only will their own supporters recognize the change, but people who are nuts about Barca too.
Trust me, if you are a Barca fan, the last few years would have been boring, with no team posing any threat whatsoever. This year, however, most fans acknowledge that Real Madrid is taking the attack to Barca and keeping the pressure on!
The second Copa del Rey match between the two sides was evidence of that...
Hence, the concern over whether Barca is at its best—there's been nothing wrong with their performances, but for a few draws in their away games.
This, in and of itself, takes away the psychological advantage that Barca has enjoyed much to the chagrin of the "Madridistas" for some years now.
And it counts for a lot in the world of professional club football...
So, do you have any other reasons why no one can stop Real Madrid this year?
