UFC: Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir to Meet in Octagon This Summer
Back in November, Cain Velasquez lost the UFC Heavyweight Title to Junior dos Santos by way of a devastating knockout 64 seconds into the first round.
It was Velazquez's first loss of his career and it was unknown who the 29-year-old would fight to try and get back on track and back into the title hunt.
According to ESPN.com, Velasquez's next opponent was revealed by Lorenzo Fertitta during a Twitter Q & A session and it will be not be an easy road back for the former champion.
Velasquez is set to take on former heavyweight champion Frank Mir, who is currently on a three-fight win streak and is also looking for another chance to regain the title.
Mir is coming off a highlight second victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira back at UFC 140 when Mir locked in a vicious kimura that broke "Minotauro's" arm in the process, undoubtedly one of the best submissions in UFC history.
A matchup between Mir and Velasquez is an intriguing one as Velasquez brings powerful striking, as well as a strong wrestling background from his time at Arizona State.
Mir is no slouch on his feet either and is one of, if not the best submission fighters in the division—just ask Nogueira.
It has yet to be announced at what event the two heavyweights will go to war, but it is predicted to happen sometime in the summer.
The winner of this fight will most likely decide who will face the winner of Junior dos Santos' first title defense against Allstair Overeem on May 26th at UFC 146.
Velasquez and Mir will both look to prove that they can still wear UFC gold in a division that is only getting tougher after the addition of Strikeforce heavyweights.
