The Undertaker's WrestleMania Streak Being Broken Is the Only Right Move for WWE

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 10, 2012

Should the Undertaker's streak be ended? It is a question that wrestling fans have been debating over for many years now.

The streak Undertaker has at WrestleMania is more iconic than anything else in WWE. His legacy is partially built around no one being able to beat him on the biggest night of the year.

This is one of the many things which makes Undertaker WWE's best legend. If his gimmick speaks for itself, then the streak is like a loud scream.

The question is not who should end the streak, but if it should be ended at all. There are plenty of points which would support both sides of the argument.

Having him lose would ruin the whole 20 years before it in some people's minds, while others think the streak is pointless unless there is someone to beat it.

Both arguments hold water, but one thing no one is really sure of is whether or not Undertaker wants it to end. We have all heard the rumors that he has a clause in his contract that he won't lose at Mania, but does that mean it is out of the question?

The Undertaker is viewed by many in WWE as a leader in the locker room, and his time with the company has shown what an amazing performer he is.

With this kind of image among his peers, you have to wonder if anyone would think of it as selfish for Undertaker to want to retire with his streak in tact.

As someone who has witnessed so many different egos in wrestling, I think it is safe to say Undertaker is not one of the bigger heads in the business.

The Internet is littered with stories of how guys like Triple H, Hogan and Flair have worked to keep others down and keep their spot secure, but you never see them about The Undertaker.

Maybe he is different, maybe his biggest goal is to leave the WWE in a way that would help the future of the company and its stars.

What is the best way to do that? By having someone end the streak. If WWE and Undertaker had someone in mind who was worthy of ending the streak, then it would do an unlimited amount of good for that person's career.

Beating Taker and ending the streak would be more important than winning a championship because only one person could ever say they ended the streak.

The main problem with this is that if the streak were to end, then it would have to be by someone who would be with the company a long time to make sure they got a lot of mileage out of the win.

The other side of the coin is that you can't have someone too young or green be the one to end it because it would make the whole streak lose all credibility.

If Tyler Reks beat Undertaker, the streak would be a joke, but if Wade Barrett or Cody Rhodes did it, there might be some good to come out of it since they still have long careers ahead of them and they have established themselves as a part of WWE's future.

This is probably the most controversial decision WWE would ever make if they decided to end the streak because fans would be split down the middle on if it was the right thing to do.

In my opinion, there is only one decision in this situation—the streak has to end. I don't necessarily have a desire to see it end, but it makes the most sense.

How would it benefit Taker to keep the streak intact and retire undefeated at WrestleMania? Would his whole career be any less iconic if he lost? The short answer is no, it would not matter.

Undertaker has gotten to a point where he is associated with wrestling all over the world and that would not change if the streak ended.

What would change is the career of the person who was able to put the dead man down for the one-two-three at WrestleMania. There would be so much press surrounding it that WWE would benefit as a corporation as well.

The only reasons to keep the streak alive are selfish ones, because when it comes down to it, you have to pave the way for the future, and you can't do that by having someone leave having never been beaten on the grandest stage of them all.

What do you think? I am not asking who should end the streak, but if it should be ended at all.
