Washington Wizards Continue to Find a Way to Embarrass Themselves

James NooneJun 7, 2018

Last night the Washington Wizards lost for the 21st time this season.

Compared to their lowly five wins, it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyways): That is not good at all. We are now just about midway through what has been a trainwreck of a lockout shortened 2011-2012 NBA season, and last night's 107-93 loss to the shorthanded New York Knicks pretty much characterizes how things have been so far for the Wiz.

A loss.

It was a loss at home, bringing their home record to a whopping 4-11, almost as bad as being 1-10 on the road.

The Knicks were playing without both Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, but somehow the Wiz allowed undrafted Harvard graduate and D-League vet, point guard Jeremy Lin to have his way with them on the way to putting up 23 points along with 10 assists.

Once again, we get to see the Wizards on SportsCenter adding to their already lengthy resume of being the laughingstock of the league.

By now fans in DC know how frustrating it is to watch a rebuilding team attempt to climb up out of the cellar step-by-step, but watching this team is just down right depressing.

They just do not get that in order to win in the NBA, you must play as a team and putting up big numbers/making the highlight reels does not matter one bit.

We all know Wizards fans have a singular star to watch in John Wall, but the pieces are not all there yet. He continues to make the same mistakes that have plagued him since arriving in DC and it seems his development has stalled as time goes by, which he cannot fully take the blame for.

Besides Wall, we are left to watch JaVale McGee single-handedly create YouTube fails, Nick "Swagged Out" Young give his best shooting guard impersonation, and the worst of all....Andray Blatche. You have to wonder what unforgivable crime did coach Randy Whitman commit against Ted Leonsis to be sentenced with such a punishment of being stuck babysitting this team?

This season we have heard just about everything from the front office to keep believing that this team has what it takes to compete with others around the league, but you don't have to be Phil Jackson to see the starting five the Wizards put out pales in comparison to just about every other squad.

Right when you think they have climbed up a step and are starting to improve, they lose in embarrassing fashion and return to the bottom of the ladder and the excuses are back.

It seems Washington D.C. is stuck in its own sports version of the classic movie "Groundhog's Day," and while once prominent figures such as Flip Saunders, Doug Collins and Rip Hamilton were lucky enough to escape, we unfortunately must endure this mockery of an NBA team until some sort of savior comes to town (Insert Kevin Seraphin joke here).

As time goes by and the ticket prices continue to plummet under a whopping .75 cents, all we can do is hope someone in this organization keeps true to the promise that one day this team will be relevant come playoff time. Right now, let's just take a step back and, instead of playoff talk, wish that this team can find a way to consistently improve without these regressions they are so prone to having.

Until then all we can do is run back on defense like a bunch of JaVale McGees with their heads cut off while the rest of the league sits back and laughs.
